History
The Patch Tribe (Japanese: パッチ族, Hepburn: Pacchi-Zoku) was a group of Native American Shamans that were responsible for protection of the Great Spirit. Furthermore, they were charged with overseeing the Shaman tournaments that occurred once every five hundred years when the Destiny Star had arisen.
Long ago, a U.F.O crashed near the Patch Village where they rescued the dying alien within and healed him. The Visitor befriended the Patch and taught them the secrets of advanced technology which eventually became the basis for the Oracle Bell. The Visitor stayed with the Patch until his natural death at the age of 100 where he eventually came to be a guardian spirit for the tribe.
Around 500 BC, a member of the Gandhara came to participate in the Shaman Fight where one of their members became Shaman King.
During 1500 AD, a Shaman Fight was fought with Fra YVS turning out to be the victor leading to his ascension to the Great Spirit. As a result, the Patch Tribe converted to the religion of the reigning Shaman King leading to them becoming the Knights Templar. Thus, the officiants became a group of armored holy warriors who operated in this role for a number of years.
Around 500 years ago, the Patch experienced a particular moment in their history when Hao Asakura was reincarnated into the tribe. Growing up, he became a particularly powerful shaman who had a wife and a child where he came to steal the Spirit of Fire from the Patch Tribe. With his new guardian ghost, Hao conquered many great enemies with such ease, including the four Seminoa Warriors, who heard his goals decided to stop him. He once again projected his idea of a Shaman world but was rejected by the shamans he was trying to promote. He had the same plans of ruling the world and killing all of mankind. During that era's Shaman Tournament, Hao once again attempted to become the Shaman King only to be killed by Yohken Asakura. Despite being killed, the Spirit of Fire was not returned to the tribe and instead remained with Hao when he enacted the spell to reincarnate once again.
In AD 2000, the new era of the Shaman Fights were to be held with the preliminary matches take place around Japan.
Overview
In appearance, the Patch Tribe were a secretive clan of shaman that operated in the world. Most of their members resided within the Patch village for the majority of their lives, performing regular day to day tasks, to provide for the general well-being of the tribe.
Since a long time ago, animals that were related to the Patch tribe turn into nature spirits when they died. When the young Patches exceed a set age limit, a ritual was held for them in order for them to find the nature spirit that will protect them in the future. Under the guidance of the Medicine Man, they were carried into a process of deep meditation that set them into a pseudo-death state. Then the nature spirits start gathering, and as soon as the young Patches receive one, they were brought back from death's depths. In the end, each youth was bound together, by a mutual agreement, with the spirit that was brought back with them. It was not impossible for a Patch to bond with more than one spirit during this process.
A particular skill used by the tribe was the Patch Song (パッチソング Patchi Songu) that was a hypnotic technique capable of enhancing their performance. It was able to increase their Furyoku and their overall spiritual strength, as well as to alter their mental states and personalities.
Shaman Fights were held once each 500 years Members of the Tribe that were responsible for oversight of the new Shaman King formed the Shaman Fight Selection Committee. Every 500 years, they host the Shaman Fight, being in charge of monitoring and testing various shamans, as well as the preparation and coordination of the event itself. The start of this event came following the appearance of the two stars of destruction, Ragoh and Keito, flying across the sky. This signalled the start of the tournament to shamans all across the world. The Preliminary Round consisted of each shaman fighting in two or three matches, the time and place of which are determined by the Great Spirit. A shaman must win at least two matches to progress. Two losses or forfeitures result in immediate disqualification and a revocation of the Oracle Bell. A draw is considered neither a win nor a loss for both participants.
The Ten Officiants (十祭司, Jū Saishi) were members of the Patch tribe and when not conducting their responsibilities concerning the fight. Their day job was to sell Patch memorabilia and food items in order to cover the expenses of the tribe. Each of the Officiants also had an area of the field which they controlled with these being called plants. These formed the path that the Shaman king must first take to reach the Great Spirit. Each individual priests had their own specific roles within the tournament. Once the Shaman King had been revealed, the Patch acted as their protectors, guarding both the new Shaman King and Great Spirit as they merged into one. It was the law of the tribe that the generation overseeing the Shaman Tournament must convert to the religion of the current Shaman King. Although the Officiants were supposed to remain neutral and impartial, some formed biased opinions and throw their support behind factions within the competitors.
A splinter part of the tribe came to form the Knights Templar (テンプラ騎士団, Tenpura Kishi-dan) after they came to serve YVS when he ascended to the position of Shaman King. They continued to operate as an offshoot of the Patch Tribe where their loyalties were to their master.
They were once the holders of all Five Grand Elemental Spirits (五大精霊, Godaiseirei) who were once within their safekeeping.

The tribe were the ones that distributed the Oracle Bells (オラクル ベル, "Orakuru Beru") which were used in Shaman Fights.
A particularly sacred land protected by the Patch Tribe were ruins located on the sunken continent of Mū (ムー大陸 Mū Tairiku). It was once populated by an extremely advanced people but sunk overnight due to an unknown disaster. The site held particular importance for the Patch as it was the place of the very first Shaman Fights and thus it was tradition that the finals are always held there. Despite the massive decay seen on the outside, the Plants on the inside are completely intact and every piece of machinery appear to be working perfectly. The entire continent is protected by a 5 meter thick Over Soul barrier created by the Patch Tribe. At the depths of the continent lies the King's Sanctuary where Shaman King slumbers while uniting with the Great Spirit. To reach it, one has to follow the path through the Plants or get lost in the maze around it, though three of the Patch Priest passed through the maze to their Plants with ease.
