Biography

Annabelle Riggs

The museum funded an expedition into the White Mountain in National Forest when Misty Knight had recovered a mysterious relic from smugglers. This saw her being hired on retainer to protect the archaeological mission from mercenares as she found further items that were incredibly old. In this time, she found an Asgardian statue where she accidentally activated it where it awoke the dead from the mass burial site. They began to attack the expedition with Misty Knight looking to protect them with some of the undead surrounding Dr. Riggs. She was then saved by the Valkyrie Brunnhilde who she passionately kissed in gratitude. Valkyrie destroyed the artifact thus ending the spell that had awoken the dead. Brunnhilde revealed that the site was a place of great shame as it contained the remains of brigands, thieves and murderers which was why their souls were not ushered into the afterlife. However, the incident had brought about the rise of an old evil and Brunnhilde intended to consult the All-Mother in Asgardia. Dr. Riggs then insisted to accompany her with Misty joining her as they journeyed to the Asgardian city in order to confront the threat of the Doom Maidens. (Fearless Defenders v1 #1)

When Valkyrie and the Valkyrior confronted Caroline Le Fay in an attempt to stop her from using Dani Moonstar to revive the Doom Maidens. It was also revealed that Brunnhilde used to be one of them. (Fearless Defenders v1 #3)

Brunnhilde used the ruins to siphon power from Moonstar, and was transformed into the Doom Maiden of Rage. She destroyed the Doom Maidens, and then defeated all the other heroes as well. Annabelle was able to stop her, but was killed in the process. (Fearless Defenders v1 #6)

Valkyrie felt intense grief over Annabelle's death and returned her to life with the help of Clea. However, Valkyrie became Annabelle's anchor to the land of the living, and the two shared a body, being able to switch back and forth between the two. (Fearless Defenders v1 #8)

Anticipating the culmination of the War of the Realms waged by Malekith the Accursed, Kid Loki assembled a group of Asgard's allies, the Asgardians of the Galaxy, with the intention to retrieve the Naglfar Beacon. Annabelle was part of this team, together with her other half, the Valkyrie. (Asgardians of the Galaxy v1 #2)

During their quest, Loki magically limited Annabelle's ability to channel Valkyrie to help prove her worth in combat. He also provided her with a magically-hacked Nova Corps helmet to fight on her own. (Asgardians of the Galaxy v1 #4)

Since Valkyrie and Annabelle were two separate entities, whenever Brunnhilde took her place, Annabelle was sent to rest in a pocket dimension in the boundaries of Valhalla. Annabelle and Brunnhilde co-existed in this plane for a few moments before her death, and they bid farewell. With Valkyrie's death, this pocket dimension collapsed, leaving Annabelle to become lost in the mists that surround Valhalla. Clea approached Annabelle's girlfriend Ren Kimura to use her connection to track Annabelle, and they were joined by some of her fellow Asgardians of the Galaxy. The rescue mission was successful, and Annabelle returned to the land of the living. (Asgardians of the Galaxy v1 #9) Annabelle continued fighting with the Asgardians of the Galaxy to defend the Earth until it was liberated. (Asgardians of the Galaxy v1 #10)

She later went on a dig at Sumerian ruins where she encountered a strange relic that she brought back to New York with her fielding a talk about her find. Among the attendees were Jane Foster and Dr. Stephen Strange with the latter revealing that Dr. Riggs's find was a mirror linked to Aggamon. The doorway it created opened thus freeing the evil mystics Kaecilius, Adria and Demonicus who battled Dr. Strange and the last Valkyrie. (Valkyrie: Jane Foster v1 #4)
