Arthur Petrelli is a male television supervillain who features in Heroes.

Biography

Arthur Petrelli was a male human who had lived in the modern age where in his youth he was known to had fought in the Vietnam War. During that time, he was known to had served alongside Daniel Linderman with the two becoming acquainted with one another. At some point, Arthur came to meet his future wife where the pair got married and she became known as Angela Petrelli. In this time, they came to meet Adam Monroe who brought them along with others into a group of twelve by Adam Monroe with a mission to help save the world. Arthur and Angela came to found the Company where they wanted to perform acts that helped people in the world. Petrelli and Linderman's working relationship continued as he was the criminal defence attorney for the Linderman Group.

Arthur made an attempt on Nathan's life with Angela poisoning her husband as a result with it believed that he died as a result. Officially, it was claimed that Arthur Petrelli died on April 2006 after committing suicide due to a long battle against depression. In reality though, he had faked his own death but had been left paralysed due to nerve damage caused by the poison. Mr. Petrelli's death affects the Petrelli family and his memory continues to run through their thoughts. Hana Gitelman discovers files that discuss Mr. Petrelli and Linderman's involvement during the Vietnam War. When Nathan comes home drunk, his mother remarks to him that she's glad his father isn't there to see him now. Kaito reveals that Mr. Petrelli was part of an elite group of twelve individuals. Nathan identifies his father amongst others in the photo of the group of twelve.

Arthur appears in one of Angela's dreams of the future. In the dream, Arthur confronts Angela and forces her to be unable to move once she awakens. Meanwhile, at the Pinehearst building, Maury Parkman reports to a bedridden Arthur on the progress of Daphne Millbrook's recruitment. Knox soon brings Adam Monroe into Arthur's room and Arthur is able to take Adam's regenerative abilities, causing him to rapidly age and die. Arthur, now fully healed, addresses "the bad guys" but is interrupted by the entrance of his son. Arthur tricks Peter and removes all of his powers, leaving him powerless. Arthur also uses his power to remove Maya Herrera's poison abilities, thus winning the trust of Mohinder Suresh, whom Arthur gives the task of completing the formula. Just as Mohinder begins an experiment on Peter, Sylar appears and kills Dr. Livitz and releases Peter. Arthur throws some lightning at Peter but misses, leading Peter to escape. Arthur stops Mohinder from hurting Sylar and reveals that Sylar is his son. Arthur tells Sylar that Angela tried to kill him as a baby and Sylar decides to side with Arthur, telekinetically throwing Peter out of a window. Via a spirit walk, it is revealed that Arthur arranged Nathan's accident, which led Heidi to become paralyzed. Arthur went on to plan another attempt on Nathan's life with the aid of Linderman. Angela attempts to kill Arthur upon learning of his plans for Nathan. Arthur, bedridden has Dr. Livitz to tell Angela and his family that he is dead. In present time, Arthur learns of Hiro's spirit walk and teleports to Africa and kills Usutu, also erasing Hiro's memories to the point where he thinks he was 10 years old.

Eventually, Arthur came to the realization on how to get the necessary Catalyst that would provide superhuman powers to the ordinary man. In order to secure it for his plans for the future, Arthur Petrilli used his time travel abilities to go into the past where he ambushed Hiro Nakamura and Claire Bennet. Using his telekinesis, he shoved Claire out of the way and seized Hiro after which he used his ability to steal powers to take both Hiro's time travel abilities and the Catalyst power that he been gifted to him by his dying mother. With the power his, he shoved Hiro of the side of the building with his telekinesis and told Claire to deliver a message to Angela and sent Claire back to the present.

With the power necessary to complete his plans, Arthur returned to the present and to Pinehearst where he went into Dr Surresh's lab. Once there, he used his power to enfuse the energy of the Catalyst with that of the superhuman serum created by Dr Surresh. The solution was then ready to be tested on 15 marine subjects after which it would be ready for mass deployment on the populace.

After using the powers of the Catalyst on the solution created by Dr Surresh, Arthur began to sense the presence of his son Peter nearby. He told his allies that it nothing and went off to confront his son who had a gun pointed towards his head. Arthur did not feel threatened by this and attempted to use his telekinesis to remove the gun only to find his power was not working. It was only then that he realized that the Haitian was present who revealed himself and was blocking Arthur's powers. He attempted to reason with his won by stating that he did what he did for the good of the world which caused Peter to hesitate in shooting him. Eventually, Arthur's actions became more violent as his power was too much for the Haitian to control and he told Peter that he lacked the will to do what needed to be done just as the Haitian's power weakened but by then Peter had fired a bullet right at Arthur's head.

The bullet did not connect as Sylar used his telekinesis to hold the bullet in mid-air near Arthur's head. He asked Arthur if he was his father and Arthur replied that he was, not knowing that Sylar gained the ability to tell truth from lie. Knowing that Arthur was lying, he told Peter that he was not a killer but he was after which Sylar shoved the bullet into Arthur's head thus killing him. With a bullet in his brain preventing any hope of regeneration, Arthur Petrilli had finally succumbed to death and the powers of the Catalyst left his body.

Personality and attributes

He was married to Angela Petrelli who gave birth to their two sons with these being Nathan Petrelli and Peter Petrelli.

Powers and abilities

His most noted ability was the capacity to steal another superhuman beings power. This required simple touch contact after which a visible aura seemed to move from the persons body into that of Arthur's. Once the act was complete, the persons ability was completely lost to them and within the power of Arthur Petrilli.
