History
Bio-Organic Weapons were genetically engineered organic weapons developed by the Umbrella Corporation as part of their secret genetic engineering programs. Initial creations were all mutated using the T-Virus that had been developed by Umbrella who had created a variety of B.O.W.s with the most successful creation being the humanoid Tyrant.
The success of the T-002 Tyrant experiments led to progress in bringing about a marketable humanoid B.O.W. with the Arklay B.O.W. Research Team proposing for work in research and development to refine these creations for sale to clients.
During this time, the creatures that ran amok following the leak of the T-Virus were typical examples of B.O.W.s.
Following the collapse of Umbrella, the research data and viral samples of the company were sold onto the black market with numerous global corporations looking to acquire these lost secrets to increase the range of their B.O.W. merchandise. Among the corporations that looked to replace Umbrella included; Medvedev, Tenenti Inc., Suntech Ninja Co., Suntech Samurai Co., Saurian Corporation, Aeolus Edge West, Aeolus Edge East, Akembe Chemical, Rashid Sahir Industries, Shéng-Yā Pharmaceutical. To accomplish this, these companies hired mercenaries to search sites for the data and information in order to either gain sole rights to vaccines or help in establish underground bio-terror networks.
Overview
In appearance, Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.) were organic life forms that had been purposed as living weapons and created typically through viral infections. These viruses were designed not to kill the host but rather transform them into a form that was best suited for combat scenarios. Some varieties of organic weapons were developed to accomplish different aims such as combat or viral contamination.
Among the various kinds of B.O.W.s included:
- Chimera : a bio-weapon product developed by the Umbrella Corporation that was manufactured in the Arklay Laboratory.
- Lickers :
- Hunters :
- NE-α Type : a parasitic species genetically-engineered by Umbrella Europe as part of its Nemesis Project.
- NE-β Type : an insectile artificially-engineered parasite organism created by Umbrella.
- Tyrants : the most effective type of bio-weapon produced as a result of the T-Virus with them noted for their high intelligence and strength.
- Plaga : the Plagas (プラーガ purāga?) were a species of arthropod parasites that were discovered in Spain and uncovered by the Los Illuminados cult. Afterwards, Tricell, Inc. using stolen samples of the parasite engineered the Type 2 Plaga that were formed from the normal parasite which was combined with leech DNA. The Type 2 were bred to mature quickly to circumvent the normal life cycle of the parasite and allowed for infestation via force-feeding into the mouth of an unwilling host who immediately fell under the sway of the creature. A further variant was the Type 3 Plaga which had Tricell, Inc. implant a subordinate strain of Plaga that was genetically modified with a control strain. Upon infestation, they greatly increased the strengths of the host but this came at the cost of visible mutations in their body.
- J'avo :
One of the main issues for T-Virus creations of Umbrella was the lack of control over their creations. The sudden cellular mutations resulted in the halting of brain functionality, impairment of judgement and other similar conditions. This led to the use of organic parasites to serve as a control mechanism with Umbrella even looking for chip connections to brain cells as a means of a more stable B.O.W. creation.
B.O.W.s include all organic weapons that were intentionally designed by Umbrella and do not include monsters created as a result of secondary infection.
