History

Tyrants were a series of Bio-Organic Weapons that were created by the Umbrella Corporation. Their origins were traced to the discovery of the Progenitor Virus in West Africa during the 1960's by Lord Ozwell E. Spencer, Dr. James Marcus and his student Brandon Bailey. They discovered that the virus had mutagenic properties allowing it to drastically alter both the mental and physical makeup of its host organism. Spencer and Marcus were determined to make use of the virus in the creation of bio-weapons leading to them forming the Umbrella Corporation alongside Sir Edward Ashford. After Ashford's death, Dr. Marcus began work on creating the prototypes of powerful and deadly biological weapons though initial experimentations failed in bonding the virus to a human host. This was until Marcus decided to infect organisms that had a parasitic need to feed on another organism with him working with leeches. This led to a breakthrough leading to the creation of the T-Virus by Dr. Marcus that had the ability to mutate a host organism. From that point, Umbrella aimed to create a highly sophisticated Fighting Biological Weapon that had intelligence which could be programmed to obey orders as a soldier. The monster was called a Tyrant that was named after the T-Virus itself.

On July 1988, Umbrella Europe enacted their Nemesis Plan which aimed to produce a controllable and more powerful living biological weapon with this culminating in the creation of Nemesis. This involved the use of a host Tyrant body that was infected with the Nemesis parasite.

Overview

In appearance, Tyrants were humanoid mutations that possessed inhuman features. They were considered the ultimate life form that was based on a male human body structure which was extremely durable. Their combat prowess was seen as the pinnacle of B.O.W. development with mental faculties that allowed them to carry out orders. When in danger, they were able to remove their power limiter and transform into a more powerful Super Tyrant form.

Variations of the Tyrant included:

  • T-002 Tyrant :
  • T-091 Tyrant :
  • T-103 Tyrant :
  • Bandersnatch :
  • Thanatos :
  • T-A.L.O.S. : the Tyrant-Armored Lethal Organic System (T-A.L.O.S.) was a bio-weapon that used a Tyrant as a base system with them having remote computer control capabilities added via a chip inserted into the brain. The cardiovascular system was artificially improved in order to increase the mobility of the natural organism. In addition, the body was armored in a special metallic allow that helped the bio-weapon protect itself from missiles and projectile fire whilst also restraining the T-Virus mutations. The T-A.L.O.S. was equipped with weapons where it along with its armour and firepower allowed it to combat a tank.

It was almost impossible to find a living subject that could serve as the base body for the Tyrant. The number of human beings that were genetically adaptable to become a Tyrant was extremely limited. This was because the T-Virus had a tendency of making the carrier's brain cells decline. Thus, efforts were made to extract a variant of the virus that could cause the least damage to the brain when it adapted perfectly to the carrier. Despite these efforts, it was said that only one-in-ten million humans that were infected could be transformed into a Tyrant whilst the remaining became zombies.
