Barclay's Protomorphosis Syndrome

Barclay's Protomorphosis Syndrome was a mutated T-cell-based contagion that activated introns, accidentally bred in the body of Lt. Reginald Barclay, that infected the crew of the USS Enterprise while Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lt. Cmdr. Data were away. The activated introns caused the victims to de-evolve.
Examples of the transformations that occurred included:
- Commander William T. Riker became a neanderthal.
- Lt. Worf became a monstrous proto-Klingon.
- Barclay partially transformed into a spider.
- Counselor Deanna Troi partially devolved into an amphibian.
- Dr. Ogawa devolved into an australopithecus.
- Data's cat Spot transformed into an iguana.
- Before the condition was cured, Picard had begun to change into a lemur.
