Biography

Origin

The Black Racer was a cosmic being who was of the pantheon of the New Gods where he derived his power from the Source. (New Gods v1 #3) He was said to be one of a number of beings that presented the concept of 'death' with these including Death herself and Nekron. (Captain Atom v2 #42)

In deep space, the Black Racer was in pursuit of the New God Lightray who was deemed destined to die. Despite his speed, the young god was unable to outrun his pursuer and was cornered where he nearly faced oblivion. However, a Boom Tube was opened by Metron who redirected the Black Racer elsewhere in the universe thus offering a reprieve for Lightray. (New Gods v1 #3)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Overview

Personality and attributes

At one point, one of his bodies was Willie Walker who became one of the messengers of the Black Racer entity. (New Gods v1 #3)

One account held that he represented 'death' as an inevitability and embodied the 'dark race' itself that all living beings ran from but ultimately lost. (Captain Atom v2 #42) He was noted as heeding the call of destiny that directed his actions. It was said that a brush with the Black Racer was a humbling experience at best. (New Gods v1 #3)

He was noted for being relentless and unshakeable in his purpose. (New Gods v1 #3)

Powers and abilities

It was noted that his power was derived from the Source. (New Gods v1 #3)

Walls served as no barrier to him as he was able to walk through solid objects. He was noted for his superb agility and for being as swift as Lightray who was capable of the speed of light. (New Gods v1 #3)

He was shown as being capable of merging his power with the body of a mortal thus turning them into a vessel for the Black Racer. This would see his old body turn to dust and returned to the Source as his new host form became a New God. (New Gods v1 #3)
