Japanese animated OVA series first released in 1998, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is set in the year 2040. Destroyed in a major earthquake in 2035, Tokyo is being rebuilt as Megalo City using "Boomers", humanoid robots developed by Genom Corporation. Unfortunately, these boomers occasionaly go berzerk, threatening lives and property. The Knight Sabres, a female mercenary group, appears to stop the rogue boomers. Lina Yamazaki moves from her small town to Megalo City with hopes of joining the Knight Sabres.
