History
The Cheyarafim were a tribe of human Mutants that emerged during Biblical times. According to Azazel, the Cheyarafim were a group who were the traditional enemies of the Neyaphem that were a rival tribe of demonic-looking Mutants. The Cheyarafim were fanatics who had a strict, black-and-white view of morality which led them into conflict with the Neyaphem. This escalated into a holy war, causing the Neyaphem to either flee or be exiled into an alternate dimension. The Neyaphem believed the Earth was theirs to own and that humans were to be ruled over and used as slaves. However, another group of mutants known as the Cheyarafim were against this and eventually defeated and imprisoned the Neyaphem, including Azazel, in an alternate dimension. Ironically, this dimension, which smelled heavily of brimstone, was the one accessed by Azazel when using his teleportation powers. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #433)
Following a confrontation, the X-Men were captured and taken to Azazel's castle within the Brimstone Dimension. Whilst there, Warren Worthington III was interrogated about his heritage about the Neyaphem. He would reveal he knew nothing of this with Azazel's subordinate the blind prophet Ginniyeh confirming his claims. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #433)
