Cosmic King is a male comic supervillain that features in DC Comics.

Biography

On Venus, he was a alchemist who was seeking to discover a ray that could change any object's atomic structure. During his experiment, he incidentally into the path of his device leading to him being imparted with its capabilities. His achievement was met with scorn from the Venusian people who saw the power of transmutation as being evil. As a result, he was banished where he left for Earth but vowed revenge against the people of Venus. (Superman v1 #147)

At some point, he was known to had joined the ranks of the Legion of Super-Villains. (Superman v1 #147)

He and his two comrades later emerged in an altered timeline when Batman saved the life of his parents. Cosmic King and his allies operated in hiding in the world where they worked alongside Ra's al Ghul with them helping him take over Earth. They then waited for the arrival of the time travelling Superman and Batman where they fought against their 'sons' to prevent them from restoring history. They fought against the pair but were ultimately defeated with Cosmic King and his comrades taken in to be returned to their future in order to restore the timeline. (Superman/Batman v1 #18)

Powers and abilities

He had the power of transmutation that was the ability to change any solid object into something else. By concentrating, he could project rays from his eyes allowing him to transmute solids or liquids into other substances. (Superman v1 #147)

With his talents, he could alter the iron within a person's body and transmute it into other substances such as Kryptonite. (Superman/Batman v1 #18)

  • Cosmic King was created by Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan where he made his first appearance in Superman v1 #147 (August, 1961).
  • The character was based on Cosmic Boy who was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino.
