History
The Deep Six were a team of half-humanoid beings that came from the planet Apokolips. It was said that they came from the Unholy Sea situated beneath the surface of their homeworld. (New Gods Special v1 #1)
They were charged with bringing Apokoliptan fury by Darkseid to Earth. They were responsible for slaying the New God Seagrin and later mutated sealife to become the monstrous Spawn. Lightray later confronted them and bound the Deep Six bound him in mutated kelp whereupon he was placed as the masthead of their control boat. This small ship was later cast adrift amongst the mutated sealife where it acted to direct the actions of the Spawn's movements. Eventually, Orion tracked down Slig and beat him to death whereupon the rest of the Deep Six unleashed the Spawn who destroyed a number of ships. After seeing Lightray, Orion freed him and he later transformed the "sender on a molecular level into a techno-organic "caller which drew the Deep Six along with the Spawn to them. The Deep Six battled the pair of New Gods where Orion killed Jaffar with the astro-force though the Spawn was ready to devour them when Lightray's transformation of the "caller" was complete. This turned it into a living warhead which destroyed the Spawn and the Deep Six were also caught in the explosion. (New Gods Vol 1 #2, #6)
In the Promeathian Galaxy, Yuga Khan managed to break his bonds in the Source Wall whereupon he returned to existence to become a threat even greater than his son Darkseid. This saw his presence being felt by all of Apokolips as the skies darkened with even the Deep Six experiencing Khan's return from their undersea spawning pit. (New Gods Vol 3 #17)
The members of the Deep Six were hunted down by the New God Killer where all were slain except for Slig who had come to Earth. In desperation, he went aboard a cruise ship and began mutating the passengers to distract his pursuer whilst he got away. This led to a confrontation with Mary Marvel and Zatanna who were unaware of the reason for his attack. Despite his efforts, he failed to escape his attacker and he was killed by the mysterious individual. (Countdown v1 #38)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Deep Six were on Earth when they ambushed Jason who was the twin brother of Wonder Woman. (Wonder Woman v5 #35)
