Biography

Origin

Neena Thurman

Her mother was taken by a top secret government genetics experimental program known as Project Armageddon. She was then artificially inseminated to produce Mutant offspring that the government could research and develop as a genetic weapon. Neena was among the children that were born in this time where she along with the other test subjects were branded with a patch on the eye. Though there were multiple subjects, the others fell like dominos with some not possessing the Mutant gene or unable to withstand the rigors of the testing process until only Neena remained the only survivor. Only a single brother remained who was named Lazarus with him kept as a cryo-preserved embryo that was catalogued for future experiments. Neena herself was considered a failure and she was left in a catatonic state where she was completely shut off from the rest of the world. Her mother had assembled a cult of followers known as the Armajesuits that took Neena away where she was left in the care of a sympathetic priest in Chicago. Once there, she was loved and nurtured in a way that she could never have received at the project's compound complex with Neena being unaware of her past. (Domino v2 #4)

Domino apparently left the NSA because of the Thurman case or soon after, and became a free agent and mercenary. She was recruited into the guns-for-hire known as the Six Pack by Cable and G.W. Bridge. They first crossed paths in Firenze, Italy while independently racking an international arms dealer. (X-Force v1 #92)

Events turned worse for the Six Pack when they picked up several jobs for a businessman named Mr. Tolliver. Tolliver ran a smuggling route through the Khyber Pass in Afghanistan and needed assistance clearing out the Soviets who interfered with his business. During the mission, Domino uncovered a secret installation underground. While exploring it, the Six Pack discovered Tolliver’s opium operation was maintained by Cable’s arch-nemesis, the armored tyrant known as Stryfe. Cable fell into a rage where he blew up the installation in an attempt to get at Stryfe, effectively breaking the Six Pack’s contract with Tolliver, and violently doing so. (Cable: Blood and Metal v1 #1) The Six Pack was on the run for the next eight months, targeted by Tolliver in retribution for his business losses and breach of contract. Domino and the others grew more and more impatient with Cable, as he continued to insist they trust him and follow his lead, yet he never shared the truth about his history with Stryfe or why it was so important to bring the man down. They found Stryfe’s operation again in Uruguay and Cable had Hammer extract all the data from his systems. The operation fell apart when Stryfe arrived personally, however, and took Kane hostage. Domino questioned Cable's motives when it became clear to her that he had a personal stake in their mission. Cable refused to bargain for Kane’s life and even shot Hammer in the back when he tried to turn over the data disc to Stryfe. As the Six Pack’s pre-planted explosives began going off, Cable abandoned the Pack to chase after Stryfe. Domino, Bridge and Grizzly barely escaped unscathed, but Hammer and Kane were crippled for life. (Cable: Blood and Metal v1 #2)

At some point, Domino became a prisoner of her former employer, Mister Tolliver. Tolliver forced the shapeshifter Vanessa Carlysle to assume Domino’s form and renew Dom’s association with Cable. Domino remained a prisoner of Tolliver for over a year at his villa in Saradegna, Sicily. Hardly a model prisoner, she suffered repeated assaults and humiliation at the hands of her jailer, Pico Halfghanaghan. (X-Force v1 #11)

X-Force

Cable then contacted her and recruited her to X-Force where he felt her skills would be useful for the team. (X-Force v1 #30)

Afterwards, she came to be recruited for the X-Corporation where she had a mandate for watching for Mutant right violations. This saw her watching for activities in Asia where evidence was uncovered of an illegal trade of Mutant organs to mainland China. Her investigations linked this to John Sublime who was a pharmaceutical company CEO and head of a radical self-esteem cult known as the U-Men. (New X-Men Annual v1 #2001)

She later took on a job that was to steal money from a target where she was accompanied by a team on the mission. This was set in New Orleans where she came to find out that her target was the Hand and later came to find her employers were the Assassin's Guild. The Guild did not like their territory being intruded upon by the ninja cult and hired Domino for her powers to turn the tide in their favour. Going to the Hand's warehouse, she found that the cult were engaged in slave trading with a group of Japanese women being kept at the site. Domino decided to abandon her employers and instead rescue the slaves where she took a van where she had them taken to the Japanese embassy to safety. However, she did not know that the van actually had millions of dollars where she gave several of the women a million each whilst she took the remainder. This caused the Assassin's Guild to want their money back and demanded that she meet with them but Neena refused to do so. As a result, she went on the run from assassins with her activities drawing the attention of Wolverine to agreed to help her. (X-Force: Sex and Violence v1 #2)

With her struggling with her powers, Amadeus Cho suggested that she seek training from a master to better handle her abilities leading to Neena going alone as she became a student of Shang-Chi. (Domino v3 #3)

House of X

After the establishment of Krakoa, the living island came to be declared a sovereign nation that was to be the homeland for all Mutants who were invited to reside on it. Domino came to be among those that decided to relocate to it where she was asked by Charles Xavier asked Domino to investigate a series of shell companies with financial ties to anti-mutant politicians and businesses. (X-Force v6 #2)
