History
Origin
Ferris Aircraft was a company established in the United States of America during the modern age. Originally, it began as a business venture between businessman Carl Ferris and pilot Conrad Bloch who worked as partners to establish Ferris-Bloch Air Inc. that was established during the Great Depression. Both were to devote their respective resources to the task of managing the company though Bloch came to fall behind. This saw Carl Ferris oust him from the company thus leaving him nearly bankrupt and having his name stripped from the business. The company was then rebranded as Ferris Aircraft with Carl Ferris being deemed the only owner of it. (Green Lantern v2 #140)
The controls of the experimental space-plane called the Flaming Spear that lost control and threatened to crash but the jet was saved by a mysterious new superhero called the Green Lantern. The hero came to learn that the plane losing control was the result of saboteurs where he managed to capture the culprits who were then handed into the FBI. Carl Ferris then announced his retirement in two years time with his daughter Carol Ferris slated to take over the Ferris Aircraft Company. (Showcase v1 #22)
Ferris Aircraft provided pilots and jets to the government regime of Minglia after the U.S. government came to ally with its leaders. The country faced the threat of rebels that were targeting them with Hal Jordan dispatched to provide support for the military. (Legends of the DC Universe v1 #8)
It later provided sponsorship to the superhero team known as the Conglomerate alongside other companies that included American Steel, Dante Foods, Dupree Chemical, LexCorp, S.T.A.R. Labs, Ovel Oil, Pax Entertainment and Stagg Enterprises. (Justice League Quarterly v1 #1)
The villainous Terra-Man robbed the 150 passengers on Ferris Air Flight 450 over the middle of the Mediterranean Sea with Power Girl pursuing him until Black Adam stopped her over Kahndaq airspace. (52 v1 #3)

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

- Ferris Aircraft was created by John Broome and Gil Kane where it made its first appearance in Showcase v1 #22 (October, 1959).
Alternate Versions
- In Green Lantern: Earth One (2018), an alternate reality setting was shown that was placed on Earth-1 where the company appeared as Ferris Galactic that was producing vessels capable of travelling through space. It launched Ferris 6 that was a Monarcha Energy Palladium Mining Expedition which was sent into the asteroid between Mars and Jupiter. Harold Jordan was among the crew members on this expedition looking for fine metals.
In other media
Television
- In Young Justice, Ferris Aircraft made an appearance and featured in the episode "Depths". Carol Ferris gave a press conference that promoted the company's new Earth-Mars communication satellite. She later had to defend the project from criticism from G. Gordon Godfrey. At the time of the launch, she joined her engineer Thomas Kalmaku and was present when Ferris Aircraft came under attack. Carol Ferris was forced to speed up the countdown to launch the rocket but it later exploded in the air due to sabotage.
- In Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Ferris Aircraft made a number of appearances in the animated television series.
- In The Flash, Ferris Aircraft was mentioned in the pilot episode of the 2014 live-action series that was part of the Arrowverse. An abandoned Ferris Aircraft in Central City was used by S.T.A.R. Labs personnel Harrison Wells, Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramone to test the Metahuman speedster powers of Barry Allen.
Films
- In Green Lantern: First Flight, Ferris Aircraft made an appearance in the animated film.
- In Green Lantern, Ferris Aircraft made an appearance in the 2011 live-action film. It was situated in Coast City where it was owned by Carl Ferris with a test pilot for the company being Martin Jordan. Years later, the adult Hal Jordan operated as a test pilot for the company alongside Carl's own daughter Carol Ferris. Senator Robert Hammond worked closely with the company. It was used to test the new Ferris Sabre III artificial intelligence fighter drones that were being developed for the United States Military.
- In Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, a Ferris Air Base appeared in the animated film where Hal Jordan in his civilian identity was stationed at where he was flirting with a woman to get her number when the Flash left him a message to meet up with the rest of the Justice League.
Videogames
- In Batman: Arkham Origins, a billboard was shown in Gotham City that advertised Ferris Aircraft.
- In DC Universe Online, Ferris Aircraft appeared in the setting of the MMORPG during the mission "Emotion Dampener". It was the development site for S.T.A.R. Labs Emotion Dampener which led to it coming under attack from Atrocitus and his Red Lantern Corps who sought to destroy the machine.
- In Injustice: Gods Among Us, Ferris Aircraft served as a playable stage within the fighting game and was part of the story mode.
- In DC Comics Legends, Ferris Air Pilot Wings featured in the iOS video game as artifacts that improved the stats of Green Lantern Hal Jordan.
