History

The Gamma Corps were a team of military operatives gathered together by General John Ryker with the purpose of eliminating the Hulk. Each of its members had their bodies mutated with the D.N.A. of various gamma-powered superhumans on the planet. Once assembled, they were equipped with various military weapons and underwent training to be able to defat the Hulk. (World War Hulk: Gamma Corps v1 #2) Their first assignment was being deployed to find Private Benjamin Tibbets who was a failed experiment to create a copy of the Hulk with them killing him after finding him being studied at an A.I.M. base. (World War Hulk: Gamma Corps v1 #1)

The rogue Gamma Corps remained on the run where they desperately sought a chance at redemption and clearing their name. Initially, they believed that if they could capture the outlaw Avengers then that would clear their name. During the Dark Reign, they were approached by the Iron Patriot Norman Osborn who offered them this opportunity. The Gamma Corps was to serve as an autonomous unit that was a part of H.A.M.M.E.R. where they served in the role of bounty hunters in capturing rogue superhumans and to do it in a way when Osborn could not intervene directly. (Dark Reign: Made Men v1 #1) Around this time, Ryker came to found a new iteration of the team called the Gamma Corps: Black that worked for the Origins Corporation when he began to serve as the company's CEO. He dispatched them to attack Lyra in order to harvest her genetic material. (Incredible Hulk v1 #601)

At their secret headquarters, the Gamma Corps came under attack from Project Omega that was the rogue artificial intelligence created by the Hulk's Doc Green persona. At this point, Doc Green was on a mission to remove gamma mutations from the planet as he considered them too dangerous. However, the artificial intelligence he created believed more drastic actions were needed to neutralise these threats. After going rogue, the A.I. created a Life Model Decoy body for itself whereupon it struck at the Gamma Corps. This forced Doc Green and the Gamma Corps to work together to stop the rogue machine equipped with battle armour which was ultimately destroyed. The Hulk then seemingly parted on good terms with the Gamma Corps but Doc Green used that to inject a serum that removed their gamma mutation powers thus turning them all into ordinary human beings again. (Hulk v3 #12)

Overview

Under the Flux Protocol, operatives were capable of being remotely terminated if they went out of control. (Incredible Hulk v1 #605)
