Biography

Origin

Genocide was a female artificial golem that was created for use against superheroes. Her origins were traced to a future version of Wonder Woman who was slain and whose body was taken by the god Ares. He filled it with his godly essence and brought it into the mainstream Earth with the intention of using it as part of his plans. Thus, he influenced the minds of various supervillains to use the body as a raw material in the creation of a superweapon. (Wonder Woman v3 #31) After joining the Secret Society of Super-Villains, Doctor T. O. Morrow was selected by Barbara Ann Minerva to join their Science Division where he proposed the creation of a Justice League killer. Thus, he was given the resources to set forth in creating an artificial being suited for the goal. (Wonder Woman v3 #26) Felix Faust was recruited to work with the scientific team to use magic as part of the project but he made it under the express condition that he never met the completed product. (Wonder Woman v3 #27) Professor Minerva was responsible for then bringing a corpse for use in the experiment that glowed with an unknown power where she said that only science and magic working together could create the weapon they needed against superheroes. (Wonder Woman v3 #30) This saw the likes of Professor Ivo and Doctor Poison being sent to sites of genocides around the world including Auschwitz in Polad, Logor Jasenovac in Croatia and Darfur in Sudan where ash from the soil was collected for the project. (DC Universe v1 #0)

Upon awakening, Morrow came to be horrified at his creation and begged Minerva to destroy it. However, she was opposed as she intended the newly created Genocide as a weapon who was first dispatched against Wonder Woman. The golem then struck at the Twin Rivers Mall located Downtown where she mercilessly murdered bystanders. Wonder Woman arrived at the scene where she battled the mysterious masked creature where she was surprised as Genocide's abilities. During the fight, Genocide came upon a fleeing bystander and took her hostage but then ruthlessly killed her in front of Wonder Woman. This provoked Wonder Woman where Genocide's powers amplified her hatred and using it against Diana leading to her swift defeat. The golem then left the defeated Amazon behind and badly wounded but not before taking her Lasso of Truth. (Wonder Woman v3 #26) She then returned to the Secret Society's hidden headquarters in Gotham City where she nearly killed Phobia. Bringing with her the Lasso of Truth, T. O. Morrow wanted to test the magical relic but Genocide instead wanted it woven into her body. The surgery was then performed by the new Crime Doctor where she was dispatched by Minerva on an assignment to strike at the Department of Metahuman Affairs. Genocide massacred many of the staff at the site though survivors managed to call in the Justice League of America. Despite their numbers, the heroes were unable to stop the golem who used the Lasso of Truth as a weapon to attack the soul of Green Lantern John Stewart. (Wonder Woman v3 #27) She defeated the heroes but was then confronted by an armour-clad Wonder Woman alongside her fellow Amazon's Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark along with their allies. Diana attacked Genocide first and hoped to use that as an advantage against her foe where she secured multiple hits. However, once in close range, Genocide used the sewn Lasso of Truth to attack the mind of Wonder Woman but she was then assaulted by the Amazon's allies. In the fight, Genocide's mask was ripped open showing her true face which provoked horror amongst the assembled heroes. (Wonder Woman v3 #28)

The creature later managed to kidnap Colonel Etta Candy and tortured her in order to force her to betray Wonder Woman. Candy never betrayed Wonder Woman but this led to Genocide torturing her to the point that she was unresponsive. The golem then left Etta tied to a replica Lasso of Truth within the Society's Gotham headquarters for Wonder Woman to find her badly wounded friend. (Wonder Woman v3 #30) Wonder Woman then confronted Genocide once again on the streets of Washington, D.C. and sought to end the threat posed by her. During their fight, Genocide managed to capture Tom Tresser and forced Diana to admit that she did not love him but rather simply wanted him as a mate in an effort to further harm the people around Wonder Woman. Diana managed to tackle the creature and take Genocide into orbit where she forced her to fall back to Earth's surface. During the process, she ripped the Lasso of Truth sewn into her body with the badly wounded Genocide falling into the Atlantic Ocean. Diana initially thought to let the golem drown in the deep waters there but decided to show mercy but came to find the golem had vanished. (Wonder Woman v3 #32)

Whilst healing her body, Ares came to place the soul of Genocide within a demonic child doll. After his defeat by Diana, the doll was recovered by Alkyone who menacingly commented that she now had a daughter of her own. (Wonder Woman v3 #33) T.O. Morrow feeling guilty over his involvement in the creation of Genocide came to inform Wonder Woman that the golem was still alive and that Doctor Psycho was looking to repair her. (Wonder Woman v3 #34) The doll was eventually sacrificed in a ritual by Alkyone where Genocide's power and rage was shared with her fellow conspirators as they sought to kill Wonder Woman. (Wonder Woman v3 #38)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Paula von Gunther with her allies travelled to the Tyrrhenian Sea and battled the Gargeran legions in order for her to reach a hidden tomb. This was the site that contained the defeated Genocide which Paula awakened to serve as the last of her four Horsemen that were to ride into battle against Wonder Woman. (Wonder Woman v1 #754)

(Wonder Woman v3 #27)

She was shown as being completely merciless by nature where Genocide was shown stomping on a woman's head who begged to be allowed to return home. In the same incident, she took a hostage and forced Wonder Woman to bow but this was not to force her defeat but rather for her to see Genocide ruthlessly crush the civilian's head. Powers and abilities

Originally, Genocide's body was an alternate future version of Wonder Woman who had been slain in battle. The body was taken by Ares who filled it with his godly essence and power to serve as raw material in creating his perfect weapon. (Wonder Woman v3 #31) The nature of her being meant that Genocide was effectively a god. (Wonder Woman v3 #26) Despite that, she was only a few days old by the time she was created and given life. She was powered by the hate, fear and pain of humanity in what was deemed mankind's only real legacy where the energy harvested from sites of genocide being used to create the being. (Wonder Woman v3 #30) It was said that despite her artificial origins that she needed to breath in order to function. (Wonder Woman v3 #32)

It was shown that she was capable of preying on the psyche of others as a form of psychological weapon against her foes. She was shown to provoke anger in her foes only to amplify their hate and use her opponent's lust for blood against them. (Wonder Woman v3 #26) The psychic residue she left behind was noted to be capable of permanently scarring the people of a city. (Wonder Woman v3 #32)

She was noted for being strong even when compared to Wonder Woman. (Wonder Woman v3 #26)

A trait possessed by Genocide was the power of teleportation allowing her to suddenly attack her foes. (Wonder Woman v3 #26)

After stealing the Lasso of Truth, Genocide was shown capable of wielding the magical relic and had it sewn into her body. It was embedded within her bones and she could summon it into battle to wrap around an enemy and attack the soul of her enemies leaving them in despair. (Wonder Woman v3 #27) She could also use it in conjunction with her own abilities to unleash a psychic explosion that affected people in the area. This caused people to lash out against their friends and experience intense anger as well as hatred to everyone. (Wonder Woman v3 #29) With the Lasso, she was capable of uncovering secrets of the soul and learn things that a person never wished to share with others. (Wonder Woman v3 #32) From each soul touched by the Lasso, Genocide could learn more about cruelty and how to inflict it on others. (Wonder Woman v3 #30)

An implant was placed within the creature's brain that meant that only the Cheetah was able to control Genocide and give her orders. (Wonder Woman v3 #30)
