Gordon Shelley
Dr. Gordon Shelley was an American scientist who worked on the Phoenix Project for the Brinkstone Oil Company. He was eaten and his mind absorbed by Charlie when the experiment went wrong. His mind remained conscious within Charlie's, and due to his strong will and great intelligence, he was able to ble to assert dominance over Charlie's consciousness and take over the shark's body, using its shapeshifting abilities to transform its body into his own from time to time. In this manner, he met Paul Latham's group their first night aboard the rig and tried to warn them to leave, but as soon as it regained control of their shared body, Charlie destroyed the rig's compliment of speedboats and sabotaged the radio.
Shelley languished inside of Charlie's consciousness over the next several days, until the shark became doped after partially absorbing the heroin addict Mark after he'd just shot up. Paul and Linda Warner proceeded to inject the comatose shark with almost all of Alex Rinaldo's heroin stash.
With the shark's brain thoroughly stupefied and its body going through fatal withdrawal symptoms when Paul and Linda stopped injecting it, Shelley was able to reassert control and turn the body into his own, determined to die as himself. Sometime later, when Paul and Linda were searching for the second of the two Brinkstone helicopter pilots who'd arrived to check up on the Phoenix Project's scientists, they found the dying Shelley who explained to them that he was grateful for setting him and the others free. He then died, and the body he shared with Charlie melted into a puddle of slime.
