Granite

Chief Rabbit of Darkhaven, Granite ruled because he was the biggest and the strongest of all the rabbits in Darkhaven, having reigned undefeated in the battle pit. All that changed when he, Spartina, Shale and Feldspar picked up a wanderer named Campion, and Campion challenged him in the battle pit. Despite Granite's superior strength, the crafty Campion easily beat him.

Although Granite several more times to retake the Chiefdom of Darkhaven, he was unsuccessful. When Woundwort came, Granite challenged Vervain to a fight for the job of Woundwort's second-in-command. To Granite's surprise (and disappointment), Vervain simply gave him the job. However, he soon used treachery to retake his former position, pinning Granite under an avalanche of old tires until he gave up.

Later, Granite was told by Spartina to kill Blackberry if she did not return from spying on Watership Down. Even when Spartina did not return, Granite could not bring himself to harm Blackberry. He even tried to help her and Campion escape. Granite later participated in the siege of Watership Down, and was one of only two rabbits (the other being Vervain) to survived the wrath of the Black Rabbit.
