Biography
The Griever at the End of All Things was a female cosmic being who embodied the end of all existence within the Multiverse. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
She began destroying entire universes forcing any survivors to be multiversal refugees where the large group looked to find salvation on Earth-616 after the opening of the Forever Gate. The portal allowed a doorway into the wider Multiverse with the mass of refugees flooding onto the planet to escape the Griever. Once there, they sought to get the aid of Franklin Richards where they believed that his cosmic abilities would save them. Fearing this power, the Griever had struck with one of the survivors where he agreed to be a spy for her and in exchange she would spare them. They came to confirm her suspicions that Franklin Richards had lost his powers which meant nothing could oppose her. Thus, the Griever arrived on Earth-616 to massacre the fleeing survivors where she easily defeated the Fantastic Four opposing her. Entering their headquarters on Yancy Street, she came to be seemingly confronted by Franklin Richards wearing a set of Iron Man Armor. Despite attempting to oppose her, the Griever easily managed to defeat him and she looked to crush him in the armor. However, she came to find the armor was empty and that she had fallen into a trap. The building had been evacuated of occupants so that the Griever was the only one there whereupon Reed Richards deleted the pocket dimensions within the building causing it to vanish from existence. Despite their efforts, this simply enraged the Griever who broke free as her existence as an abstract being meant that she could not be destroyed in such a fashion. Furious at the defiance, she intended to destroy the entire planet as an act of spite and to punish the Fantastic Four for their insolence. (Fantastic Four v6 #27) This involved encasing Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, Dragon Man and the Thing within Necro-Spheres to make them constantly experience their potential deaths. It was then that she was confronted by the Silver Surfer who was one of the Heralds of Galactus who came to aid his allies among the Fantastic Four. The two battled where even with the Power Cosmic he was unable to stop the Griever though she admired the effort he made in the 16 minutes he had fought her. This though was only a distraction to allow the Fantastic Four to be freed and so that they could get the Ultimate Nullifier that was retrieved by Norrin Radd. Franklin was given the weapon which threatened to kill both him and the Griever. However, to save his son, Richards offered the Griever her desire which was access to the Forever Gate but rather than use it to destroy all existence he decided to send her to the end of time where her function would be fulfilled. She agreed to these terms and felt that she would see Franklin Richards by the end but he denied it whilst she went through the gateway. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, the Griever was a humanoid female with pale skin, long white hair, pale skin and pale eyes though despite this form she was in fact an abstract being. (Fantastic Four v6 #28) She wore a distinctive silver-white mask covering her face, shaped with angular, almost skeletal features that gave her a deathlike presence. Her form often shifted and expanded, sometimes appearing as a vaguely humanoid silhouette and at other times stretching into a massive, looming abstraction that dwarfed her opponents. (Fantastic Four v6 #2)
As a cosmic being, she embodied the end of all existence and thus sought to achieve this goal. She intended to find a means of bringing about the end of all worlds. Her attack on Earth was done so on the basis of using the Forever Gate and its access to all realities as a means of achieving this feat. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
In personality, the Griever was characterized by arrogance, cold detachment, and absolute conviction in her role as the end of all things. She took pleasure in mocking mortals for their attempts to resist her and seemed fascinated by the defiance shown by the Fantastic Four. Despite this, she displayed a rigid adherence to her cosmic identity, retreating only when Reed Richards proved through logic that she lacked the authority to destroy the true multiverse alone. Her demeanor combined cruelty with inevitability, as she positioned herself less as a villain with motives and more as an unavoidable cosmic truth. (Fantastic Four v6 #4)
The Griever's philosophy was that of the End is the Truth. (Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver v1 #3) She served the Quiet Math that dictates that everything ends. (Scarlet Witch v4 #4)
She acted as the counterpart for the Queen of Nevers, who represented possibility, and they each use agents namely Endlings and nexus beings. (Scarlet Witch v4 #2)
She considered Franklin Richards a threat as he could imagine a world without her existence. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
Powers and abilities
She was noted for being an abstract being that made her incredibly powerful. (Fantastic Four v6 #27) In fact, she had said that her being was tied to the very fabric of existence. Thus, destroying her would mean destroying a part of reality itself. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
As a cosmic entity, the Griever possessed powers that placed her among the most formidable beings in the Universe. She wielded absolute authority over entropy, allowing her to unravel universes, matter, and energy at will. Her Servitors acted as extensions of her will, capable of overwhelming even the most powerful opponents. While she could not destroy the entirety of creation unaided, her ability to erase artificial universes, dismantle energy constructs, and resist the combined might of the Fantastic Four demonstrated her position as a conceptual force rather than a simple physical adversary. (Fantastic Four v6 #2)
One of her abilities was encasing her foes within a Necro-Sphere where he trapped a person in a state where they experienced their potential deaths constantly. This was designed as a form of danger by showing the person the moment of their death and making them repeat it again and again. (Fantastic Four v6 #28)
At her command were a number of hulking beings that she referred to her as her Endlings. (Fantastic Four v6 #2)
She made use of devices known as Transmaterializers when she aimed to remove an aspect of reality or even a universe. (Fantastic Four v6 #2)
The Griever cannot create anything herself since she was the embodiment of destruction and entropy. While she was knowledgeable in using technology, she does not appear to understand its functions as she failed to understand if technology was broken but repairable or if it was completely unsalvageable. She was also less than immediately capable of turning her universe-destroying power on individuals, analogized as person being less capable of destroying a single germ rather than sanitizing an area. (Fantastic Four v6 #3)
