Biography

Howlyn was a male member of the Atavus race who lived on their own distant homeworld where his father served as the ruler of that planet. However, Howlyn defied his fathers rule and he along with like minded Atavus as well as his followers left their homeworld in order to colonize a planet of their own. Their travels led them to the planet Earth where Howlyn became the supreme king of the many tribes of their new home which they conquered. Unlike their original homeworld, the Atavus on Earth had to adopt the practice of feeding on native Human beings in order to sate their hunger and maintain their lifeforce. At some point, he had mated with a female Atavus who alongside like minded comrades refused to feed on other life. The coupling also produced a son for Howlyn who became known as Yulyn with his father encouraging the child to feed as well as to demonstrate that vicious hunting instincts. However, Yulyn instead adopted the teachings of his mother who denied this instinct even when they were dying due to hunger. Instead, they along with the others urged to leave Earth and find a world where they did not need to feed. Howlyn's mate eventually died due to her desire not to feed. (Episode: Bad Genes) Howlyn was eventually courted by a female Atavus of another tribe known as Nahema though he rejected her in favor of Juda. (Episode: Legacy)

At some point during his rule, he encountered a time travelling Nahema along with Renee Palmer and a Crusade era monk called Father Franciscus. Palmer later killed Nahema by tricking her into re-emerging from a Portal into a wall. This combined with her features greatly attracted Howlyn to the point that he wanted Renee as a mate though she left but not before destroying the Portal to prevent any further time travel. It was suggested that Howlyn used the dead Father Franciscus's DNA as a template to transform humanity into modern humans in an attempt at ensuring the emergence of Renee Palmer in the distant future. (Episode: Legacy) Being the dominant species, the Atavus conquered the world and had used bio-engineering to create mankind. Humanity proved to be a rare delicacy amongst the Atavus who were forced to ration them at the time, (Episode: Unearthed) According to him, he had known humanity as far back as when they used to walk on their knuckles. (Episode: Pariah) Following that time, Howlyn continued to push his son into feeding on humans but Yulyn refused. His father would have killed the boy at that point but an asteroid shower engulfed the Earth forcing the Atavus to enter into stasis. Yulyn was taken to a separate Royal stasis hive where he was protected by a loyal guardian. (Episode: Bad Genes)

In the 21st century, in a failed attempt by the Taelons and Jaridians to save their species from genetic extinction, the pair had used an Atavan regeneration chamber retooled by Ma'el to return them to their Atavus roots in order to survive. (Episode: Point of No Return) However, this act only reawakened Howlyn and his kin who attacked a human submarine piloted by Renee Palmer that intended to see if Liam Kincaid had survived the event. After feeding on a number of them, an explosive was set to destroy the submarine and the Atavus along with it. However, Howlyn and his surviving members of his kind fled to the regeneration chamber that sunk back to the ocean floor. Despite this being the case, Ronald Sandoval learnt of the awakening of the Atavus and used the Taelon Motherships tractor beam to pull the regeneration chamber into the Taelon vessel. (Episode: Unearthed) Once there, he intended to offer his services to Howlyn though the Atavus leader initially refused until Sandoval informed them that he could help them feed their hunger on 5.5 billion humans. (Episode: Pariah)

(Episode: The Seduction) He took great satisfaction in demonstrating his enhanced abilities to show that he was superior to human kind. Whilst he showed contempt for mankind and believed that they did not possess any traits of warriors, he did respect those that showed such feats.
