The Jedi Holocron is a technology that features in Star Wars.

History

A Holocron was a data storage device that had long been used by members of the Jedi Order to store their knowledge. Ancient Jedi had long stored their teachings within these relics that could only be accessed by skilled users of the Force.

During the reign of the Galactic Republic, the greater sum of Jedi Holocrons came to be stored in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Overview

In appearance, a Holocron was an artifact- which appears as a small, palm-sized, glowing cube of crystalline formations and hardware, with curious designs etched into its technological components. They served as ancient repositories of knowledge and wisdom that can only be accessed by those skilled in the Force. The Holocron can create hologrammatic images that are recordings of ancient Jedi teachings. True Jedi Knights can also interact with the images.

Notes

  • Jedi Holocrons were created by Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy for the Legends comic series Star Wars: Dark Empire published by Dark Horse Comics.
  • The devices later were introduced into canon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series in the episode "Holocron Heist".

Alternate Versions

  • In Star Wars Legends, Holocrons made their first appearance in the continuity of the former Star Wars Expanded Universe. Holographic Chronicles were organic crystal-lattice device which stored phenomenal quantities of data guarded by the device's gatekeeper that was an artificial personality of the Holocrons creator.
