Biography

Jonathan Rook was a young male human born in the modern age where he came to live in Charter City. From a young age, he was noted for his high intelligence where he looked to using it to offer solutions to problems. This included help other kids in getting more fun when they played. Rook had long a desire to improve the world through science and technology. He participated in numerous science fairs and always got first place when he showcased his inventions. As he grew older, the only person who he cared for in his life was his mother who was ill. Her condition eventually saw her being admitted into hospital where he became desperate in finding a means to help cure her. Eventually, he received an invitation from the mysterious Epsilon Society that were a research think tank that he longed had wanted to join. At the meeting, he was met with the Society who offered him membership into their ranks but to do so he would have to abandon all familial ties along with his name and sense of identity. Jonathan hesitated as he wanted to help his mother and this resulted in the Epsilon Society departing despite his pleas in them making an exception. Following this rejection, he returned to check on his mother but she had passed away suddenly before he came to the hospital. Afterwards, Rook devoted himself fully to science and intended to make a name for himself without the aid of others. He forged a close friendship with his mentor Racine Cleo and also became close with other scientists as they established Rook Limited. Among their first endeavours was the creation of a maglev train that was intended to improve transportation in Charter City. He was awarded the contract for the job leading him to gaining fame and fortune as a result where he quickly came to be a starring figure in the city in his role as CEO of Rook Unlimited. During this time, he was approached by an agent of the Epsilon Society with the group being impressed by his efforts and once more offered him membership though this time without the caveat of him abandoning his individuality or personal life. However, Jonathan Rook refused as since the last time the society came he became determined in making a name for himself without the aid of others and had succeeded despite their rejection. Thus, he called his chief of security to remove the Epsilon Society agent from the building. Afterwards, he alongside his mentor Racine Cleo and the Dashti's came to discover a new revolutionary compound called Flexarium. This, in turn, led to the discovery of an event more experimental compound called Hyperflexarium. One day, he decided to test the formula on himself despite the advice of Cleo and the Dashti's. Injecting it into himself, he was transformed into a monstrous green-skinned creature with amazing stretching related powers. In this form, he went rogue and attacked his comrades along with injuring Dr. Cleo's eye before he was sedated. Rook by this point was dedicated in using Hyperflexarium in evolving the human race to make it stronger with him kept chained by his comrades as they sought a cure for his condition. However, Rook as the monster escaped where he sabotaged the plane of Cleo and the Dashti's causing it to crash thus seemingly killing all its occupants. In the aftermath, he began to operate a duel life as both Jonathan Rook the rich billionaire helping the city and the monster who secretly was involved in trying to replicate as well as perfect Hyperflexarium. Around this time, he heard on the news that the Epsilon Society was seemingly disbanded for illegal activities thus removing another thorn in his side. As the monster, he stole numerous containers of Flexarium whilst being involved in secret testing of the compound on test subjects.

Stretch Monster hired the Gentleman with the goal of finding and capturing Blindstrike who was in possession to sensitive information. When the mercenary returned, he revealed that he failed in his goal and thus returned the money paid to him. Afterwards, the Tech Men managed to hack into the systems of Rook Unlimited and steal the company's highly advanced and secret solar panels which they rigged to generate an EMP shock to knock out the city's electronics. Rook security battled them alongside Stretch who offered the solution of detonating their airship's Flexarium drive to destroy the solar generator. An angry Rook then wanted to know how the Tech Men had circumvented his security systems with his people looking into the matter.

From his drones, he came to learn the location of Dr. C's base and dispatched the entirety of his security forces to assault the site.

After being captured, he was confident that reinforcements would return to save him and when he saw Malcolm Kane he believed that his security chief would deal with the Tech Men. However, he was shocked to find out that Kane was actually the leader of the Tech Men who operated as Number One. Malcolm had planned a corporate takeover of Rook Unlimited with Jonathan attempting to transform into Stretch Monster but he was shot with a dart to debilitate him. He was then rescued from capture by Wingspan and Omni-Mass who took Rook to their headquarters where he begged the Flex Fighters for their help as his body was now trapped in a half-way transformation between his human to his Stretch Monster form.

With Rook and the Flex Fighters captured, they were seemingly defeated but Stretch managed to use the dreamscape to communicate with his friend Erika Violette who had been exposed to Hyperflexarium. He convinced her to accept her powers and she became an energy being who created a wave of power that destroyed all the Smartmarks in the city. Thus, the Tech Men were thwarted and they quickly retreated by hiding in society to escape capture. Kane intended to keep fighting but he was defeated and placed under arrest. Dr. C then intended for Rook to confess to his crimes but Jonathan had no intention of doing so as he put his own contingencies into operation. He had the prior recording of his confession erased and had disabled the collar around his neck that was controlling his transformation. Rook then protected himself behind an impenetrable glass barrier whilst firing a poison compound that left Dr. C in a coma with the Flex Fighters and their allies barely managing to escape. In the aftermath, he used the media to claim that the Flex Fighters had been working with the Tech Men in their attempt to take over the city which he had thwarted thus leading to them being wanted fugitives once more.

Overview

Personality and attributes

As Stretch Monster, he was more monstrous in form as he stood taller than a human with a ghoulish green skinned features along with red eyes.

On the surface, Jonathan Rook appeared to be a kind and generous person who wanted to improve the lives of people in Charter City. Despite his kind appearance, there was another darker persona to him which was the one he took as Stretch Monster.

He was shown to be highly duplicitous and use people to achieve his goal. In order to find Dr. Cleo, he faked a defeat at the hands of the Flex Fighters and claimed that he was a victim of her experiments. He then tried to forge a kinship with Jake Armstrong in order for him to trust the Stretch Monster to allow him to find Racine's laboratory. To deal with the Flex Fighters before they knew his secret, he put a poison within their drinks in order to weaken them for their eventual fight. He was capable of working with them to fight for the greater good against worse threats. However, he was shown to not be above betraying them the moment their common foe was defeated.

His ultimate goal was to bring about the next stage of human evolution through the use of Flexarium. Thus, he conducted experiments in order to find the perfect formula in order to transform mankind into superhuman beings. This he intended to do so by force regardless of humanity's desire. This was because of his view that humans were weaker beings who did not understand the capacity for change when it was given to them which was why he believed they should be evolved by force if necessary.
