Biography
Original Timeline
Kitana was a female princess of the realm of Edenia where she was the daughter of King Jerrod and Queen Sindel. Long ago, their realm was invaded by the warlord Shao Kahn who murdered Jerrod and claimed his wife as his own queen. Their realm came to be merged with Outworld and Kitana was raised as Shao Kahn's daughter who was unaware of her true past. A spell was made to make her into a loyal assassin of the Outworld Emperor whilst the sorcerer Shang Tsung use his magic to create a disfigured clone of her named Mileena who could serve as another heir to the throne. In his time, Kitana worked alongside her 'sister' Mileena and her old friend Jade as they worked in the service of Shao Kahn.
She came to be accused of treason by the High Courts of Outworld and charged with the murder of her villainous twin sister Mileena. This resulted in her being a fugitive and going on the run whilst Shao Kahn appointed a group of warriors to find and bring her back alive. Kitana in this time looked to reach the newly resurrected Queen Sindel in order to warn her about their true past and that she was being used to invade Earthrealm. She managed to convince Jade to join her where they located and freed Sindel from Shao Kahn's mind control. This in turn led to his eventual defeat at the hands of Liu Kang which allowed Kitana, Sindel and Jade to liberate Edenia from Outworld. With their realm restored, Kitana returned to her homeland with her mother taking the throne as its leader.
Earthrealm had barely recovered from its violent merger with Outworld, however, as a new threat presented itself in the form of Shinnok. He and his grand vizier Quan Chi invaded Edenia from the forbidden Netherrealm and imprisoned its legitimate rulers. No novice to escaping from prisons, Kitana broke loose once more, only to encounter a resurrected Mileena now in the service of Shinnok. She defeated Mileena in battle before locking her in a jail cell in the prisons of the Edenian Palace. The forces of darkness were soon defeated by Raiden and his comrades, and Edenia was free once more. It is after these events that Kitana finally proposed to Liu Kang and offered to rule Edenia together as King and Queen. Liu Kang reluctantly denied her offer, saying his place was as Champion of Earth. In the aftermath, Quan Chi and his forces left Edenia in order to wage their battle against Raiden along with his forces. During this time, Kitana managed to escape the remaining guards with surprising ease and looked to make her move to oppose Shinnok with the future of her realm being waged on her success. After Shinnok's defeat, Kitana learned that Shao Kahn had survived his defeat in Earthrealm and was trying to regain his strength in Outworld. Realizing the vulnerable position of her realm, however, Kitana hastily formed an alliance with the Shokan, a powerful and ancient race that had fallen in disgrace with the weakened Emperor. Having mediated a peace accord between the two mortal enemies of Shokan and Centaur after Shinnok's defeat, Kitana and her forces prepared for battle.
With Edenia truly free, Princess Kitana led her people in a pre-emptive strike against the weakened Emperor Shao Kahn. To aid her, she forged an alliance with Prince Goro and his Shokan armies of Outworld with the two working together to achieve a major victory for both their nations. However, tragedy struck when Goro was slain in battle with the Shokan forces becoming leaderless and falling into chaos within their lines. Despite this setback, mysterious assailants were similarly responsible for killing Shao Khan as well causing Kano's troops to fall back. As a result, Kitana had achieved a victory with a new era of peace at hand but this came a terrible price for the Shokan people. It was then that a new threat emerged from deformed undead soldiers that carried the banner of the sorcerers Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. The pair had formed a deadly alliance with the goal of conquering all the realms and Kitana's forces charged to clash with this new enemy. The Edenians were cut down easily by the undead who wielded bewitched weaponry with the souls of Kitana's army being harvested as they flew away to a distant location.
Despite Kitana's grief upon learning of Liu Kang's death at the hands of the Deadly Alliance, she joined with her old Earthrealm allies against the new threat. Unfortunately, the Deadly Alliance was victorious, defeating the heroes with Kitana herself killed in a one on one battle with Quan Chi. However, shortly after, Kitana and her allies were resurrected by Onaga, the legendary Dragon King himself. Onaga then put a powerful spell on them, turning them into his loyal servants. Now loyal to the Dragon King, Kitana assisted in Onaga's invasion of her own realm of Edenia.
Ultimately, Kitana fell in battle against the Deadly Alliance but her killers were defeated with the return of the Dragon King Onaga. The former Outworld Emperor then used his magic to resurrect Kitana to serve him as one of his personal guards. With her soul enslaved, she had no choice but to kill in Onaga's name but this also led to his thoughts being shared with her and Kitana came to learn about the true source of his power.
Reboot Timeline
During the Armageddon, Shao Kahn ultimately won where all of creation faced destruction but during the last moments of Raiden he managed to his past experiences back to his younger self. This created a change in the timeline as the younger Raiden was guided by the scattered visions of the future where he sought to avert this dark future.
Upon meeting Queen Sheeva, she requested that the Shokan join Kotal Kahn's forces against Shao Kahn. Sheeva was unconvinced though as she felt that Kotal was not a strong enough ally to risk incurring Shao Kahn's wrath. Furthermore, Kotal's empire had been hostile to the Shokan people with this being another reason to not enter into an alliance. Kitana though made a case for an alliance to bring peace to Outworld though Queen Sheeva believed that such an act could not be accomplished without the Tarkata. Thus, she made a condition, if Kitana could secure the aid of the Tarkata then the Shokan would join them with the Edenian Princess heading forth to seek out Baraka.
Defeated, Baraka decided that Kitana had earned the right to be heard where she attempted to convince the Tarkatan to align his forces with Kotal Kahn. Baraka refused the offer as he was aware of how Kotal's forces had exterminated the Tarkata prior the changes to the history. Despite that, Kitana continued her case at being allies where she suggested that the Tarkata would rule Outworld jointly as equals rather than as pawns to Shao Kahn. Barkara decided to temporarily ally himself with Kitana as no one had ever offered his people the option to be equals but he was not convinced on Kotal Kahn being willing to such an offer. Kitana assured him though that if Kotal refused then she would help Barkara in killing the Osh-Tekk warlord. With the Tarkata by her side, she went to Queen Sheeva and gained the aid of the Shokan where the allied armies went to the Koloseum in order to confront Shao Kahn before he executed Kotal Kahn.
Killing Shao Kahn, she informed Kotal that his claim to the throne was now unchallenged and that the Shokan as well as the Tarkata were ready to ally with him. He, however, decided to abdicate his position and instead named Kitana the new ruler of Outworld. This saw everyone bowing to her as she claimed the mantle of Kitana Kahn who had unified the realm.
