History
The Life Entity
Its origin dated back to the dawn of time, when its arrival into the void of space triggered existence itself, casting off stars and planets through a violent struggle between light and darkness. Although the Guardians of the Universe had long claimed that life began on Oa, they secretly knew the Entity had entered the universe at a location that would eventually become Earth. The Entity chose to nestle deep within the Earth's core to incubate, using the planet as a cradle to protect itself from cosmic threats. Over billions of years, its white light fractured into the seven colors of the emotional spectrum, giving birth to the specific emotional embodiments like Ion and Parallax as life evolved and developed feelings such as willpower and fear. (Blackest Night v1 #7)
Sinestro destroyed legions of Black Lanterns with the Entity's power. While being bonded with the Entity, Sinestro was able to see its memories and witness the creation of life and the Emotional Spectrum. Nekron managed to kill Sinestro while he witnessed the Entity's memories, however the Entity's power revived Sinestro. Together Sinestro and the Entity were able to gain the advantage over Nekron, even managing to destroy Nekron's body. Nekron, being death itself, couldn't be killed in the same manner as a living creature, and he simply switched bodies. The Entity was taken out of Sinestro and was left vulnerable. Hal Jordan bonded with the Entity and together they restored the living heroes transformed into Black Lanterns from Nekron's influence. Hal transformed them into White Lanterns and dubbed them the White Lantern Corps, they defeated Nekron by resurrecting Black Hand, cutting Nekron's link to the living plane, allowing the heroes to finally destroy Nekron. The Entity disappeared after the battle, but a White Lantern Power Battery was found on Earth. (Blackest Night v1 #8)
Overview
In appearance, the Life Entity was a vast, luminous being composed entirely of radiant white light, its form shifting between a celestial bird-like silhouette and a more ambiguous, amorphous mass of living energy. At times, it manifested as a glowing humanoid figure with avian wings or refracted tendrils, embodying the raw creative spark that animated all living things. Towering and radiant, its brilliance was so intense that its form often appeared obscured to mortal eyes, enveloped in arcs of energy or pulses of white aura. Its 'face' could resemble a fusion of countless species, a symbolic nod to the Entity’s role as the origin of all life on Earth. When dormant, it resided deep within the Earth’s core, encased in a chamber of crystalline structure resembling an embryonic nest surrounded by pale, natural light. The Entity’s presence evoked awe even among gods and Lanterns, radiating warmth and creation. (Green Lantern v4 #43)
The Life Entity was the primordial embodiment of life itself, the cosmic force from which all biological existence within the universe—especially that on Earth—had emerged. Born at the moment life first stirred on the planet, it existed long before recorded history and was tied metaphysically to the Emotional Spectrum, serving as the counterbalance to death personified by Nekron. The Entity’s will was not comprehensible in mortal terms; it acted through instinctive preservation of life, selecting champions to bear the White Light when creation itself was at stake. Its guidance was subtle, transmitted in flashes of vision or through its influence on events tied to the cosmic rebirth of life-bearing worlds. (Green Lantern v4 #50)
Its ties to the emergence of life meant that the destruction of the Entity would kill all living beings in the universe. (Blackest Night v1 #7)
