Linda Warner
Linda Warner was the girlfriend of Paul Latham. She went with him on his dope-running expedition and was on board Mark's yacht during their cross-Atlantis voyage. When it sank, she joined her boyfriend and the others in the single life raft, where she had to endure passes from the sexist American Alex Rinaldo. The group soon found their way onto a seemingly abandoned oil rig, which it turned out was owned by the Brinkstone Oil Company and was a front for a mysterious scientific experiment called the Phoenix Project. There was no sign of the Brinkstone scientists. Just empty clothes and discarded guns.
That night, as Linda slept in one of the scientists' cabins with Paul, something tried to break through the door. Paul shot at it with one of the weapons the group had found, and drove it away. He, Mark and Alex pursued it, intent on finishing it off, but found only an apparent survivor, a Dr. Shelley, who explained that the creature was Charlie, and that he was "under control" now. Shelley disappeared the following morning, and the group also discovered someone or something had sabotaged the rig's speedboat compliment and radio.
Whilst Paul and Mark learned more about Shelley, Charlie and the ill-fated Phoenix Project, Linda had to put up with more come-ons from an increasingly uncontrollable Alex, at one point having to lock him out of the rig's rec room to protect herself when he became drunk. Later, after Alex had been absorbed by Charlie in the form of his own girlfriend Rochelle, his strong will allowed him to exert control over the mutant shark's body and transformed it into his own, raping, killing and eating Mark's girlfriend Chris. Linda went to look for Chris and found the transformed Alex, who tried to rape her, only to be stopped when Charlie regained control and subsumed the American's mind. Linda escaped.
When Mark refused to accept Chris' death and ran away, Paul wanted to just gather up their evidence of the Phoenix Project and leave without him, but Linda persuaded her boyfriend to go and get him. They found Mark, having just injected himself with heroin, partially absorbed by Charlie. The partially transformed shark was high from the drug, and so Linda and Paul injected massive amounts of heroin into it, seemingly killing it. However, the following morning, Charlie was nowhere to be found, dead or alive.
As they went to leave, they encountered a man named Mike, who Paul shot in reflex, thinking him Charlie. Only when they got outside and found a Brinkstone helicopter did they realize the truth; Mike had been the pilot, and Paul killed him. Linda, however, noticed there had been two pilots, and so she and Paul went to find the second one. After locating him, the three got into the helicopter and took off. However, it turned out that the "pilot" was in reality Charlie! He'd taken over the second pilot's body, leaving his old one behind to die of heroin withdrawal.
Linda, banking on the idea that Charlie might still be addicted, offered the last remaining vials of heroin to the creature in return for letting her and Paul go. Charlie refused to spare them, but moved to take the vials anyway, allowing Paul to take him by surprise, opening the helicopter door and kicking him out. Paul took over the controls and flew himself and Linda safely to another nearby oil rig. Only as they came in for a landing did Linda realize they'd lost the tapes made by Dr. Shelley about the Phoenix Project - and all their evidence of what Brinkstone had been doing.
