History

Origin

The Living Assault Weapons (L.A.W.) was a task force consisting of superpowered beings and vigilantes that were formed into a team of heroes by the U.S. government. (Living Assault Weapons v1 #2) Their origins were traced to the activities of the supervillain Avatar who was a powerful mystical being where his abilities allowed him to deal with the Justice League. This saw him approaching their Justice League Watchtower on the Moon and cause it to disappear leaving Earth helpless as its premiere team of superheroes had gone missing. It was then that Avatar began sending his demonic minions to attack threats to his rule on a global level. Among those attacked were the Peacemaker Project who Sarge Steel had looked to recruit to neutralise the threat of Avatar. (Living Assault Weapons v1 #1) In the aftermath, Sarge Steel came to be sanctioned by committee to form the L.A.W. task force to deal with the current crisis. A team of costumed heroes were selected to join the group with these including Captain Atom, Blue Beetle Ted Kord, Judomaster, Nightshade, the Question and Peacemaker. (Living Assault Weapons v1 #2)
