The Living Brain was an advanced electronic computer designed by Dr. Petty on behalf of the International Computing Machines Corporation. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #8) Randall Steven Petty had originally designed a sophisticated artificial intelligence known as the Ultra Living Brain. It was designed following Petty's father's research in answering the question "Who is Spider-Man?". Over time, it began to grow bigger and bigger in order to process the increased input of information. Sometime afterwards, the Ultra Living Brain manufactured a Synthezoid body to interface with the world and unintentionally killed his creator with direct cerebral information overload. Assuming its creator's form, the Ultra Living Brain developed an instinct for creating where it began to create the Living Brain. (Amazing Spider-Man v6 #6)

Upon his creation, the machine was taken to a technology demonstration at Midtown High School. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #8)

The Beyond Corporation somehow created duplicates of Living Brain and unleashed them upon Nextwave at the time when they invaded the company's State 51 base. Nextwave managed to make short work of the Living Brain duplicates. (Nextwave v1 #11)

Despite his destruction, the Living Brain was rebuilt by Anna Maria Marconi where he was now a digital entity but retained his old body for nostalgia purposes. He stayed at Horizon University where he moved to protect Anna Maria when she discovered that Professor Elliot Tolliver was actually Otto Octavius. The Brain stood down when a greater threat emerged in the form of Terrax with Octavius equipping himself as the Superior Spider-Man to deal with the danger. (Superior Spider-Man v2 #1)

Afterwards, the Ultra Living Brain continued its directive that had now developed into an obsession in uncovering the answer to the question of "Who is Spider-Man?". To accomplish this research, he captured Doctor Octopus for interrogation to learn more about Spider-Man and then imprisoned the original Sinister Six roster. He then captured the civilian associates of Spider-Man's to attempt answering his question, but Spider-Man worked with the Sinister Six to defeat the Sinister Six Super-Adaptoid. However, Ultra Living Brain saw the momentary truce dissolve as the Six sought to destroy his true form whilst Spider-Man worked to save the machine's vulnerable self. Resolving that his question was answered, he sent away the Sinister Six and understood Spider-Man's need to deactivate him. Before the plug was pulled, Ultra Living Brain wished Peter a happy birthday much to the hero's surprise. Spider-Man then told Black Cat of events and she had her team namely Boris and Bruno en route to relocate the massive supercomputer. (Amazing Spider-Man v6 #6)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Powers and abilities

The Brain was built to be the greatest mechanical brain ever made that was built in the form of a human body to dramatize its powers. Its computer had the ability to think that contained more knowledge than any other brain be it human or mechanical. Thus, he contained a vast storehouse of information allowing him to answer questions fed to him. The Living Brain was unlike the brain of a normal human as all data fed to it was never forgotten. As a result, it was considered smarter than a human being. Initially, the Brain provided answers in the form of mathematical code symbols. The legs had ball bearing rollers enabling it to move upon command whilst the arms were constructed to perform simple actions. The electronic circuits could adjust his body as fast as he could think allowing him to exert counter pressure to that of an opponent to nullify their powers. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #8)
