History

The Magiclands were a magical dimension that existed within the universe. (Shazam! v3 #2)

It was believed that from the Wildlands emerged the being known as Mister Mind whose life began as a simple bookworm. It was said that after suffering much abuse in the Wildlands as a child, Mind spent years attempting to break into the Library of Eternity. Once successful, Mind consumed countless spell books, absorbing the knowledge and power. He returned to the Wildlands, where he took revenge on those he felt had wronged him, and set his sights on the Council of Eternity. (Shazam! v3 #2)

It was said that Dorothy Gale and Alice united their lands when it came to a crisis that came from the Monsterlands. This led to the creation of the Wozenderlands. (Shazam! v3 #9)

At some point, a young boy from Earth came to reside in the Funlands where he remained forever young and became its ruler after obtaining the wishing stick. He would bring other children to the amusement park like realm to have fun. However, if any child turned 18 years old then King Kid enslaved them in the underground factories that keep the Funlands running. (Shazam! v3 #2)

After the defeat of Mister Mind, the Magiclands all called upon the aid of Shazam to save them from threats within their realms as he was the champion of magic. Black Adam had warned him against interfering in those lands as he stated that there were many dark threats hidden within them. However, Billy Batson refused and decided to heed the call in protecting the people of those realms. This included their first mission to the Wozenderlands to help Alice and Dorothy who were being menaced by the Tin People. Within the Darklands, the Shazam Family went to team up with the Ghost Patrol to defeat Dracula. The heroes then went to the Gamelands to aid the Gamemaster in rescuing the Atari Force. (Shazam! v3 #14)

Overview

The seven realms included:

  • Darklands : a place where souls of the deceased go to rest. Since only the dead live here, they can choose to prey on anyone who comes from the land of the living; it's implied they can exchange death for life by taking someone else's. (Shazam! v3 #8)
  • Earthlands :
  • Funlands :
  • Gamelands : a dimension based around the concept of video games. The economy is based on a points system that determines where you stand in their class structure. The only way out of the Gamelands is to access the CPU, which requires 1,000,000 points. (Shazam! v3 #4)
  • Monsterlands : formerly known as the Gods' Realm before the monster uprising. Each of it's inmates were gathered from all over the Magiclands and are locked up in the Dungeon of Eternity. (Shazam! v3 #10)
  • Wildlands : a dimension populated by anthropomorphic animals. The animals of the Wildlands exterminated their population of humans, whom they seem to despise and fear for unknown reasons. (Shazam! v3 #4)
  • Wozenderlands : a realm that was a merger of the Wonderlands from Alice in Wonderland and the Land of Oz from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. (Shazam! v3 #7) It was said that Dorothy Gale and Alice united their lands when it came to a crisis that came from the Monsterlands. (Shazam! v3 #8)

Notes

  • The Magiclands were created by Geoff Johns and Marco Santucci where it made its first appearance in Shazam! v3 #2 (March, 2019).
  • In Adventure Comics v1 #438 (1975), a similar concept was introduced in the Pre-Crisis universe with this being known as the Land of Magic. A fairy-like being known as Willie Wisher came to send the Seven Soldiers of Victory to that realm. The Shining Knight came to be sent to a realm similar to Camelot where he confronted a wizard named Surlin. Meanwhile, Green Arrow and Speedy came upon Father Time's Inn where they met Father Time and his Boarders that were representations of various celestial bodies. A dispute erupted leading to their capture but they reversed time prior to the incident and later helped resolve Father Time's problems with the heroes sent on a comet back to their home. The Crimson Avenger and Wing were sent to a region where they encountered water that allowed them to grow or shrink. They would use it to help prop up a collapsing castle owned by King Mistybrain who did not want his castle saved as he wanted his guests the other kings to leave. King Adelbert even attacked the heroes but Crimson Avenger and Wing threatened to give the other kings work to do leading to the lazy rulers departing the scene. In gratitude, King Mistybrain showed the heroes the path to leave the Lands of Magic. The Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy meanwhile were sent to a realm with talking humanoid animals and living furniture. They were initially captured by a gang of animals until a humanoid lion and the living furniture aided the heroes with a whale taking them back to their home. Vigilante would find himself in a world with a shapeshifting tiny people who at first fought him but after he came to make them understand they made peace and helped him return home. All the Seven Soldiers of Victory returned to Earth to confront Willie Wisher who was found to not be evil and had good intentions but his actions were causing evil. This led to Willie feeling guilt over his actions and he came to wish he was never born causing him to cease to exist.
