- Mala was created by Williams Wool and Al Plastino where he made his first appearance in Superman v1 #65 (July/August, 1950).
- The character was unrelated to Mala of the Amazons of the Themyscira.

Television
- In Superman: The Animated Series, Mala was re-imagined as female in the setting of the animated television series set in the DC Animated Universe where she was voiced by actress Leslie Easterbrook. She was a tall muscular female Kryptonian who was an inhabitant of her world where she participated in a coup alongside Jax-Ur. The pair were arrested and for their crimes they were banished to the Phantom Zone.

- In Superman 64, Mala appeared as a boss level antagonist in the video game adaptation of the Superman: The Animated Series.
