Men of Frost (Defenders of the Earth)

The Men of Frost are a group that features in Defenders of the Earth.

History

The Men of Frost were re-engineered human beings that were created by Ming the Merciless in the years when his homeworld of Mongo became a dying planet that was covered in ice. During this time, Emperor Ming sought to conquer a new world and directed his attention to the planet Earth where he was opposed by Flash Gordon. Their encounter saw the death of Gordon's wife though Ming himself managed to flee Mongo in his throne ship and escaped to the Antarctic on Earth. Once there, he established Ice Station Earth as his headquarters and unveiled his Men of Frost to serve as his spies and soldiers in his plan to conquer the planet. These agents were essential in the capture of Rick Gordon and L. J. from school where they took the pair to an abandoned State Penitentiary. This attracted Gordon's newly formed Defenders of the Earth who themselves were captured. However, Rick Gordon, L. J. and Jedda Walker managed to free them which saw the Men of Frost escape when the prison's generators were sent on overload. (Episode: Escape from Mongo)

Rick Gordon eventually developed the means of reversing the process on individual Men of Frost. (Episode: Men of Frost)

Overview

Members of this group were notable for being silver smooth skinned beings that were completely bald. They were coated in what was called a "veneer of frost" that made their hearts cold and their minds responsive to Ming's control. As a result, they were biological beings and different from the Ice Robots used by Ming's military. Whilst their external features made them distinctive, the Men of Frost were known to employ fake skin to make them appear as normal humans though sometimes they wore heavy clothing to mask their true nature. The process of transforming humans into Men of Frost was capable of being reversed and restoring an individual back to their original persona. However, the treatment was not always successful as some individuals retained their allegiance to Ming despite having been turned physically back to normal. (Episode: Men of Frost)
