Biography
Origin
Mister X was a male Mutant born with a normal appearance where he was the son of rich loving parents who provided anything his heart had desired. He was noted for having been a happy child who could have remained living this life had it not been for an incident one day when his mother was taking him home when they witnessed the outcome of a car accident. A woman was critically injured and lay dying with the boy being drawn to her as he had never seen someone die before. Breaking away from his mothers grasp, he went by the dying woman's body and could feel the life leave her as she died with this exciting him. His mother then took him home but the boy became drawn to the experience of death with no other activity satisfying him as women, parties or material possessions were able to satisfy him. As he was growing him, he fell into depression with his parents sending him to the finest doctors to treat him. No medicine could treat him and deep down the now young man knew what would ease his depression but also realised that he could not find people that were simply dying. It was then one day that he was washing the small dog that his parents had given him as a gift. In that moment, he felt compelled to put the dog in an oven and increased the temperature where he saw the pet frantically attempt to escape only to die from within the growing fires. His paents arrived on the scene where they were shocked at their sons behaviour and driven by a need to experience death he proceeded to murder his parents. Afterwards, he decided to embark on actively killing people in order to get a joy from their deaths where he started small by killing vagrants, runaways and junkies as no one would notice their murders. He then proceeded by murdering his neighbours and old girlfriends as he grew bolder in his actions. Eventually, he decided to go after more dangerous targets that were people of influence and power with murder at this point being second nature to him. Like a hunter, he began looking for more dangerous prey and realised that the only foe that would be a challenge to him were other hunters like himself. Thus, he looked to find other killers and fighters such as himself in order to defeat them as well as claim their title. To achieve that goal, he decided he did not need any obstruction and after gathering his fortune he started to destroy all records of himself. He then sought out to become the perfect killing machine where he looked for masters in various forms of fighting that included martial artists, boxing and use of any form of weapon. He worked his way as a student until he surpassed his masters whereupon he killed them and went to train under another master whereupon he killed them as well after learning everything from them. (Wolverine v2 #160)
He came to hear talk about a American superhero called the Wolverine who was the best fighter known in the world. This intrigued Mister X who wanted to test his talent against a worthy opponent. (Wolverine v2 #160) During a sparring match, he killed all those sent after him and received a call from his assassins who had failed to kill Wolverine. This intrigued Mister X as he believed he had now encountered someone who could give him a challenge and had his people arrange a meeting between the two. Wolverine came to track his foe to a warehouse where Mister X battled Logan and easily managed to defeat him in hand-to-hand combat. (Wolverine v2 #159) The unconscious and defeated Logan to his island retreat in order for him to sign away his title of 'The Best There Is'. After telling Logan his story, Wolverine went into a rage at learning more about the psychopath and broke free from his restraints with this making Mister X happy at seeing more of a challenge from his quarry. Their fight went deeper into the building where Mister X made use of a variety of weapons he had acquired over the years. Their fight continued with Wolverine managing to grab onto Mister X and being prepared to kill him with his foe enjoying their fight. However, Mister X's subordinate Blok intervened and rendered Wolverine unconscious with this act of foul play leading to him being punished. Mister X claimed that had the fight continued that he would have won again but the interference meant that he decided to let Logan live where he was left on a boat far away so he could return back to civilisation. Unable to track down his foe, Mister X continued with his activities where he felt an immense sense of enjoyment with his fight with Wolverine and wished to spar with him again in the future. (Wolverine v2 #160)
The subsequent rematch with Wolverine came weeks later when both entered the annual Bloodsport tournament on the island nation of Madripoor where Mister X was the reigning champion. Before his duel with Wolverine, Mister X managed to defeat the Taskmaster, who happened to be one of the most proficient fighters on the planet. Both Mister X and Wolverine fought their way to the championship bout, during which Wolverine realized that X was a telepath who used his ability to anticipate an opponent's moves. After Wolverine succumbed to another berserker rage, X began losing his fight but was again saved by Blok and escaped. During this time, the Taskmaster who frustrated by the humiliating defeat he had suffered attempted to kill X by firing an incendiary arrow at him from underneath the ring in which he and Wolverine were fighting. Wolverine's enhanced senses alerted him to Taskmaster's presence and allowed him to anticipate the attack, which would have harmed him as well, and allowed him to get out of the way before it hit. To Wolverine's surprise, X also moved out of harm's way, as though he had also sensed the danger. As the fire from the arrow spread across the ring, temporarily separating the two combatants, Wolverine recalled X telling him that he had been able to feel a girl die when he was younger. Reminded of how Jean Grey had learned of her powers (by reading the mind of her childhood friend Annie when Annie was killed in a car accident in front of her), Wolverine surmised that X must have telepathic abilities enabling him to predict his opponent's moves. The natural solution to such a talent is not to think while fighting; to slip into a berserker fury as he had done during their second fight. He allowed himself to slip into a berserker rage and the tide immediately changed. Despite his skill, X was unable to predict Wolverine's moves. Wolverine, who is a highly skilled martial artist himself, soon had the advantage. The ring eventually collapsed but not before Wolverine had knocked X into one of the corners containing the championship belt. X picked up the belt and declared that he had won the match, which was technically true according to the rules of the tournament. Despite this, Wolverine was poised to deliver the death blow but Blok, once again, saved X's life. (Wolverine v2 #168)
Thunderbolts
In the aftermath, he remained the reigning champion of the Bloodsport though he experienced nothing but boredom. He was set to attend the opening of a new opera house alongside Madripoor's absolute ruler Tyger Tiger. Mister X came to hear of a possible assassination attempt on his life and deliberately attended the event for the challenge. It was then revealed that the performers were the assassins who launched their attack mid-performance. Security details came to take Lady Tyger to safety whilst Mister X decided to alleviate his boredom with these attackers. He effortlessly defeated them as the building was evacuated whereupon they revealed that they had actually come to smuggle him out of the country. They had prepared a fake body disguised as him which was burnt to make it appear that Mister X had been killed whilst the real one had left the country. Officially declared dead, he was free to act with impunity and came to be recruited in Director Norman Osborn's Thunderbolts. (Thunderbolts v1 #132)
