Steel
Steel took Natasha to the JLA Watchtower and introduced her to his JLA teammates. (DC One Million v1 #4)
The Alien Alliance transported Natasha and every last citizen of Metropolis by zeta-beams to the orbiting space ark. It was an evacuation necessary because Metropolis would be a staging ground against Imperiex, who had destroyed a number of alien worlds and was preparing to blow up Earth. (Superman: The Man of Steel v1 #115)
President Luthor blamed Superman for the kryptonite asteroid heading towards Earth, and put out a warrant for his arrest. He prematurely announced the capture of Superman, and Batman, who was aiding him, leading members of the Batman and Superman Families, including Natasha, to raid the White House to rescue their friends. D.E.O. agents defeated the Superman Family, but Batman and Superman broke into the White House and freed their friends. (Superman/Batman v1 #5)
Natasha has a violent falling out with her uncle John, over John's disgust over what he feels is the self-absorbed narcissism of the superhero community. When Natasha discovers that the Teen Titans were holding an open call for new members, John forbids Natasha from going and instead insists she continue the clearing out debris from the battle of Metropolis. When Natasha refuses, John dismantles her armor, and she is left powerless. John also makes it clear that she will have to build her own armor if she wants to be a super-hero. (52 v1 #1)
Whilst at Steelworks, she picked up a call from Dr. Kala for her uncle where she confirmed that John had been exposed to Luthor's Metagene treatment that gave a person superpowers. After finding a poster for the Everyman Project, Natasha believed that her uncle had intentionally given himself superpowers and felt that he was a hypocrite for not allowing her to be one. Later that day, she was attempting to finish her suit only for it to be ruined where in combination to the anger, frustration and exhaustion from failing led to her lashing at John for him having powers whilst denying her the chance to be a hero. Thus, she angrily stormed out and made her way to LexCorp where she volunteered to be part of the Everyman Project with Lex Luthor making her the first recruit for the program. (52 v1 #8)
When John, looking for Natasha, threatens to kill Luthor at a Lexcorp party, Natasha appears, along with a team of super-powered people in Luthor's employ, and beats him severely. From that point, she is estranged from her uncle, who makes numerous attempts to contact her, which she rebuffs. Gifted with new skills, Natasha is given the codename Starlight. (52 v1 #21)
While in battle, she came to witness her friend Trajectory Eliza Harmon being killed by a new Blockbuster. Natasha was finally contacted by John on New Year's Eve, who forced her to rethink everything that Luthor had told her. Later on, Luthor had instituted his 'Rain of the Supermen' whereby he deactivated the powers of each Everyman hero outside of Infinity, Inc. This caused many to plummet from the sky and be killed in the process leading to Natasha realizing that her uncle had been right all along. (52 v1 #35)
She then begins working as a double agent within Luthor's organization. However, she is found out and beaten by Luthor, who had acquired superpowers. (52 v1 #39)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. She was the daughter of Clay Irons with her having a younger brother named Ezekiel Irons and her uncle was John Henry Irons. (Superwoman v1 #11)
At some point, her relationship with Traci 13 had broken up with Natasha devoting her time into responding to emergency threats. She came to disagree with her uncle over their respective methods in dealing with these dangers. After the Dark Multiverse crisis, the Source Wall was damaged leading to a wave of cosmic energy creating new Metahumans on Earth. To respond to this threat, Nightwing recruited Natasha Irons to join a new incarnation of the Titans that were sanctioned by the Justice League. (Titans Special v1 #1) During this time she developed a working relationship with fellow young genius Ben Rubel after the two briefly had a clash of egos, as well as the ever-friendly Beast Boy. (Titans v3 #26) Steel debated leaving the team after the devastating shooting of Nightwing, who was her inspiration for joining, but ultimately decided to remain on. (Titans v3 #27)
After creating the Authority, Superman began recruiting select individuals for his team. Among them was Natasha Irons who he personally had chosen to join him. (Superman and the Authority v1 #2)
Overview
Personality and attributes
Upon joining the Everyman Program, she initially gained a light-based powerset leading to her operating under the codename Starlight. (52 v1 #21) After gaining her gas-like powers, her uncle John suggested the code name Vaporlock during the time she worked with Infinity Inc. (Infinity Inc. v2 #8)
Powers and abilities
She was an excellent fighter, capable of easily taking down three cops in close combat. (Steel v2 #45)
In addition it had radiation and movement detectors as well as the ability to track people through their 'bio-signature'. (Action Comics v1 #807)
Her armor skin was a substance she called chrome which was semi-sentient. Objects could be compressed into quantum packages for mobility allowing her to deploy her laboratory from an object the size of a small cube. (Titans Special v1 #1) One of her creations was the Boom Room that was a mobile command centre that used Boom Tube tech to transport itself between sites. (Titans v3 #23)
Through the Everyman Project, she gained Metahuman abilities where she had the power of flight, superhuman strength and far more durable than a normal human. It was shown that when she struck someone physically that she emitted bright flashes of light. (52 v1 #9) Subjecting herself to the programs Exo-Gene experiments had the unprecedented effect of variable meta-manifestation in the host, unlocking and bestowing superpowers by supplanting an artificial meta-gene. This genetic augmentation was shortlived, however, as its effects were purposefully engineered with an off switch. (52 v1 #39) Any lingering abilities brought about by remnants of the bio-mods eventually faded away with time. (Infinity Inc. v2 #12)
Later on, her powers changed and she gained the ability to transform her body into a gaseous substance. (Infinity Inc. v2 #3) Whilst in her gas state, she could force herself into a person's lungs in order to choke them and render them unconscious. (Infinity Inc. v2 #5)

- Natasha Irons was created by Louise Simonson and Chris Batista where she made her first appearance in Steel v2 #1 (February, 1994).
- She later took on the identity of Steel in Action Comics v1 #806 (October, 2003).
- Irons afterwards took on the identity of Starlight in 52 v1 #21 (September, 2006) and then as Vaporlock in Infinity Inc. v2 #8 (June, 2008).
Alternate Versions
- In Gotham City Garage v1 (2017), an alternate version of Natasha Irons was shown to exist on this dystopic world where she headed the Garage that were opposed to the Lex Luthor controlled city known as the Garden.

- In the DC Animated Universe, Natasha Irons made a number of appearances in the shared continuity setting.
- In Superman: The Animated Series, Natasha Irons made her first appearance in the animated television series episode "Heavy Metal" where she was voiced by Cree Summer.
- In Justice League, Natasha made a cameo appearance in the animated television series episode "Hereafter".
- In Superman & Lois, a character named Natalie Irons appeared in the setting of the live-action television series set in the Arrowverse where she was portrayed by actress Tayler Buck. This version was the daughter of John Henry Irons and Lois Lane from a parallel version of Earth where she was a teenager when Superman inexplicably turned against the world. After Superman killed Lane, Natalie helped her father build an exo-suit so he could avenge Lane. At the end of the first season, Natalie unknowingly makes her way to the "prime" Earth in a spaceship and reunites with her father. In the second season, Irons and the "prime" Lane help Natalie adjust to the new Earth. In response to Ally Allston's attempts to merge Earth with Bizarro World, Natalie constructs an exo-suit with X-Kryptonite lacquer for her father.
