Biography

Nosferatu Zodd (Japanese: 不死のゾッド, Hepburn: Fushi no Zoddo) was once a human being who was transformed into a demonic Apostle. In time, legends spoke about his actions with rumours speaking of him surviving for centuries. During these years, he was known to had developed a rivalry with the skull-faced knight who opposed the God Hand. Typically, he engaged in slaughters only to disappear for long-spanning periods of time and repeat the process over the years. At one point, he came to offer his services to the Tudor Empire during their centuries long war against the Kingdom of Midland. At a Tudor stronghold, he protected the inner citadel where he was confronted by 50 raiders from the Band of the Hawk. He slaughtered his opponents leading to his first encounter with Guts who was enraged at seeing his men killed. This led to a battle between the pair where Zodd knocked the swordsman back by throwing the corpses of two men at him with a swing of his sword. He then advances toward Guts, complimenting his swordsmanship, before the two begin exchanging blows. After gambling his life on one swing, Guts manages to slice the top half of Zodd's blade clean off, cutting into the apostle's right shoulder in the process. Commending Guts for being the first man to injure him in 300 years, Zodd grabs his opponent's sword and assumes his true form, excited and ready to fight at full strength. Zodd's immense strength proves to be too much for Guts to contend with, however; disappointed, Zodd decides to finish the swordsman off. Just as he begins crushing Guts in his grip, he is hit by an arrow volley from Falcon reinforcements lead by Griffith. Only angered by their interruption, Zodd decimates the Falcon soldiers, cornering Griffith and the now wounded Guts before they can escape and insisting that they fight him. Meeting Zodd's advance, Guts and Griffith execute a pincer movement on the apostle, the former cutting deep into his torso and the latter severing his arm; Zodd retaliates by tail-whipping Griffith into a column, knocking the White Falcon unconscious. Delighted to have found two humans capable of so greatly wounding him, Zodd expresses regret in having to kill the two mercenaries, before making to finish off Griffith. However, Zodd stays his hand upon seeing Griffith's dangling crimson beherit, shocked that one such as Griffith bears the 'Egg of the King'. Knowing fully well the significance of this event, Zodd punches through the keep's roof and prepares to take his leave, cryptically warning Guts of an inescapable death that will befall him when Griffith's dream was shattered before flying off.

Two years after the fifth Eclipse, Zodd had slaughtered three hundred mercenaries and had grown bored fighting weaker foes. He grew dissatisfied fighting his fellow Apostles and the only other challenge was against the Skull Knight. This saw him consider hunting down Guts after acknowledging how he had slain so many other Apostles in his quest for revenge. It was then that he experienced of a Hawk of Light with Zodd taking his true form to battle this intruder but was immediately defeated by the apparition. Upon regaining consciousness, he found that one of his horns was severed with a gas on his forehead. He was then confronted by Femto with the disembodied voice commanding him to travel to Albion for the prophecised time. In response, Zodd decided to swear his loyalty to the victor and agreed to serve him.

Overview

Personality and attributes

Due to the long years he survived, he was at times referred to as Zodd the Immortal. Mercenaries were known to refer to him as the god of the battlefield.

He showed an incredible tolerance to pain where he reacted with amusement at his arm being cut off.

His desire for battle meant that he grew excited when he faced opponents that impressed him in combat and could actually wound him. It was rare for him to encounter such foes and as such he sought long brutal engagements with him taking his true form in such moments. If his foe was defeated, then he grew disappointed in them and swiftly killed them for seeing his true form. He expressed a certain degree of melancholy over his own strength as he saw himself as being too powerful to find adequate adversaries among mortal men.

Unlike other Apostles, he did not eat human flesh nor was he inherently sadistic or cruel with him taking no pleasure in torturing or killing weaklings.

Powers and abilities

As an Apostle, Zodd had abilities that were beyond human making him stronger and more durable than ordinary mortals. Zodd is able to defeat the average apostle with ease, and is the only apostle known to have survived direct conflict with the Skull Knight, whom he has fought on multiple occasions. In his apostle form, he can parry large weapons with his horns and claws, absorb arrow volleys with his thick fur and skin, and break through solid concrete and rock with sheer force. His strength is such that he can send a fully-armored Guts with his Dragon Slayer flying across the battlefield with the swipe of his paw. Furthermore, he is capable of tearing fully armored men and horses to pieces with a single swipe.

It was his demonic nature that allowed him to reattach his limbs even after they were severed from his body.

He could transform into his more powerful demonic form where he sprouted horns along with wings.
