Biography
Pre-Crisis
Pinky Butler
In 1941, Pinky lived with his widowed mother in Gotham City. One night, a monstrous man on a random killing spree broke into their house and killed Pinky's mother. Pinky swore to find the monster and avenge his mother's murder. The next day, local lawyer and civic volunteer Brian Butler took Pinky to the Oaklawn Orphanage and offered to help Pinky in the future. Pinky settled into orphanage life, but several weeks later he saw the monster who killed his mother leaving the orphanage. He contacted Brian Butler, who searched for the monster as Mister Scarlet. Mr. Scarlet found the monster, but the monster disappeared when they reached the orphanage. Mr. Scarlet left confused, but Pinky found evidence that the monster may be his teacher Dr. Jelke. Pinky donned a superhero costume he had made and investigated further, discovering that Dr. Jelke has been transforming into the monster, calling himself Mister Hyde. Pinky then ran into Mister Scarlet who had returned to investigate further, and together they stopped Dr. Jelke, who then committed suicide. A few days later, Brian Butler adopted Pinky, ostensibly to keep Pinky from endangering himself helping Mister Scarlet, but by that time Pinky had figured out that Butler was Mister Scarlet, and convinced Butler to let him be his sidekick. Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Pinky Butler
At some point, a now adult Pinky came to assume the mantle of his mentor and became the new Mr. Scarlet. He continued to operate in Fawcett City where he joined the world's heroes in the effort to stop Prometheus. Following a trail, he went underground in Fawcett City where he was joined by Bulleteer to one of Prometheus's lairs. Inside there, they found a captive Freddy Freeman who had his mouth sewn shut. The two heroes helped free him with Freddy transforming into his superpowered ego after uttering the word 'SHAZAM!'. (Justice League: Cry for Justice v1 #7)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Pinky Butler
Pinky came to be one of the many sidekicks that were kidnapped and taken by the Childminder. All the kid sidekicks of heroes from the golden age had been taken to an island where they never aged. This was until Red Arrow Emiko Queen and Stargirl Courtney Whitmore discovered it and found them. In the resultant battle against the Childminder, many of the kid heroes were freed with Pinky being among them who was looking for his mentor Mr. Scarlet. (Stargirl: The Lost Children v1 #5) The children then battled the Childminder and her ally who was a re-programmed Hourman. They would restore Hourman to his original self and defeat the Childminder with the young heroes brought back to the present day Earth. (Stargirl: The Lost Children v1 #6)
