History
The Pirate Clans were a loosely associated group of space pirates living on the fringes of Earth's solar system. Originally convict laborers sent to Saturn's moon Tethys, they were abandoned after the development of the Neosapiens. Determined to survive, they built ships and began raiding other spacecraft, taking what they needed.
They eventually made their base on the planet Chaos, and were nominally led by Jonas Simbacca. The Clans were originally the Exofleet's enemies, but later joined them against the Neosapiens.
The escalation between the Homeworlds and Pirate Clans came to an impasse in 2119 A.D. when the Homeworld Congress declared war on the Pirate Clans in response to the Clans pillaging of a civilian ore freighter, the Danube, which resulted in the death of one of its two crew members. In addition to the death of the Danube's crew member, an entire Exofleet work crew was killed when a booby-trap left by the Pirates was accidentally triggered. The Pirates ambushed the ExoFleet in the Asteroid Belt utilizing their Cloaking Devices and Rogue Asteroids. The ExoFleet fought off the ambush and chased the Pirates to their base on Enceladus. The ExoFleet won a costly battle and chasing the Pirates again, yet to Tethys. Just before the ExoFleet assault on their base on Tethys the war abruptly ended when the Neosapien Commonwealth surprise attacked and conquered the Homeworlds. The Exofleet turned its full attention to freeing the Homeworlds from Neosapien oppression.
Overview
The Pirates were criminals which led to a strong culture of violence, survival of the fittest and chaos. Clan leaders were chosen based on their strength as a warrior, not necessarily their leadership ability. The Pirate Clans were made up of a confederacy of sovereign groups who aligned with the strongest clan.
Leaders and warriors alike developed a code based strength, loyalty and honor. Death matches solved disputes of any nature and a warrior saved in battle owed a life debt to the savior.
The unrestrained nature of the Pirates became exaggerated when exposed to Dark Matter, know as Dark Matter Syndrome.
The Pirate Clans resided among the the moons of Saturn as well as Trans-Neptunian space. In addition to their bases on Enceladus and Tethys, their primary base was on Chaos, the tenth planet of the Solar System. From decades of life confined to the outer planets, the pirates had discovered Chaos. The planet is composed of Dark Matter which makes it almost invisible to detect, giving the Clans the technology to have Cloaking capabilities equipped on their ships.
