Early history

According to the ancient Maltusian beliefs, the entity known as the Predator was rooted into their mythology. These beliefs linked it to the deities known as the Triarchs, specifically to their father Daalon. The myths state that over ten billion years ago, Daalon was slain by his children and his blood gave birth to demons that cried for vengeance. Their aim was to bring death to the people of Maltus but one of their number refused to fall down this path for he could not kill the innocent. It was this being that the myths label as the Predator who fought against his brothers and sisters which led to him being cast out from their number. When the Triarch departed Maltus, the Predator decided to strike out against the true heirs of their legacy who were the Guardians of the Universe. (Green Lantern Vol. 3 #42)

However, the truth of the matter was that the Predator was in fact one of the sentient manifestations of the Emotional Spectrum. This entity was similar to that of the fear element Parallax and the will powered Ion but was the embodiment of love itself. (Green Lantern #43)
