History
Rats in the House of the Dead (Japanese: 死の家の鼠, Hepburn: Shin no Ie no Nezumi?) was a criminal organisation consisting of ability users that were led by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
They were affiliated with the Order of the Clock Tower in order to obtain the Book.
Under the direction of Fyodor, the Rats looked to acquire the Book that was somewhere in Yokohama City. However, they lacked the means of directly acquiring it themselves and thus they manipulated the Guild into attacking the area themselves. Their intention was to sabotage the fight between the Guild and the Armed Detective Agency into destroying one another. During the Guild’s second part operation - Operation 'Moby Dick Drop' - to obtain the book and its foreseen descent to the land, Fyodor Dostoevsky override the control system of Moby Dick to successfully execute their plan in wiping out the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia. However, this plan failed when a member of the agency manages to crash the Moby Dick to the sea. With the plan being a failure, their plan to obtain the book still stands. They have stirred unrest with the Guild and seized 40% of their assets, damaged Yokohama and weakened their foes. Fyodor eventually scouts Nathaniel Hawthorne with the latter lending the group a hand for a while for the purpose of helping Margaret Mitchell come out of her coma.
After the Guild war, Fyodor lets himself be captured by the Port Mafia, specifically by a man named Ace, one of the five mafia executives. While the executives and the leader discuss his fate, he is detained in an underground prison. Fyodor is then transferred under Ace's watch. Fyodor successfully outsmarts Ace, frees himself from Ace's capture and manages to steal the list of Port Mafia's ability users, eventually stating their next objectives, the annihilation of the Port Mafia and then, the Armed Detective Agency.
Afterwards, they sought to engineer a conflict between the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia. This involved using Pushkin's poison ability against both organizational leaders namely Yukichi Fukuzawa and Ōgai Mori. The only way to stop the poison from killing the infected was either to allow the other to die or to kill the gifted ability user. As such, the Rats hid Pushkin to force the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia to fight one another in order to save their own leader. The battle was only stopped when both Fukuzawa and Mori decided to ally their organizations in a unified attack on the Rats in the House of the Dead to stop the virus ability.
Overview
In appearance, the Rats in the House of the Dead were an underground organization. It consisted largely of ability users all of whom possessed a number of unique powers. The logo of the group consisted of a cartoon-like design of a rat's head, with big hollow eyes and an enormous grin.
It was said that they lacked the raw power of the Guild and could not destroy a city with them having to resort to different means to achieve their goals.
They used music as codes to communicate with each other during their cannibalistic mutual destruction operation.
