Rumiko Fujikawa is a female comic character who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Rumiko Fujikawa was a Japanese female born in the modern age as the granddaughter of Kenjiro Fujikawa who was the CEO of Fujikawa Industries. From very young, she was educated in a conservative environment and was not even allowed to join the family business due to being a girl. (Iron Man v3 #4)

After Tony Stark's disappearance, Fujikawa took over Stark Enterprises, but instead of reclaiming his company, Tony founded Stark Solutions. (Iron Man v3 #1)

As the site to present the company's new projects to the world, Tony Stark chose the paradise island of Isla Suerte and Kenjiro Fujikawa decided to bring his granddaughter along. While there, Rumiko met Tony and forced him to go with her on a walk in the beach to annoy her family. She began to date Stark largely as an act of rebellion to parents who disapproved of Stark. (Iron Man v3 #4) This left Tony with the impression she was just a "spoiled, flighty airhead", but after seeing her in action commandeering medical personnel and helping them deal with the wounded during Firebrand's attack and the following volcano eruption, she got his respect, and he even developed a mild attraction towards her. (Iron Man v3 #5)

They met again when she heard he had been checked at Basel Stress Clinic, and so decided to fly from Tokyo to see him. During their time together, she tried to keep him away from work in order for him to relax and recover. At a picnic, she opened up to Tony and revealed that her rich-girl act was a way to tell her family that she would not always follow their expectations, but the part of liking Tony was not a pretense. After this, the two got romantically involved. (Iron Man v3 #13)

During a period when they are broken up, she slept with Stark's business rival and enemy, Tiberius Stone. In remorse, Rumiko arranges for Stark to acquire sufficient stock in his old company that he can reclaim control of it. (Iron Man v3 #37) Tony and Rumiko get back together and are very stable for a while until Stark took the job as Secretary of Defense and becomes so busy that he neglects her and their relationship. (Iron Man v3 #40)

She was shown to be an extremely resourceful person on several occasions. In one case, she was shown to be able to breaking through locks. (Iron Man v3 #13) Her ability to act in times of emergency was shown when she helped mobilize an entire medical teams to help people after a catastrophe. (Iron Man v3 #4)

  • Rumiko Fujikawa was created by Kurt Busiek and Sean Chen where she made her first appearance in The Invincible Iron Man vol. 3 #4 (May, 1998).

Alternate Versions

Kiri Oshiro in Armor Wars v1 #2.
  • In Armor Wars v1 (2015), an alternate version of Rumiko Fukikawa had lived on Battleworld in the realm of Technopolis. This version was a close friend of the realm's ruler Baron Tony Stark and ha married where she had a daughter named Kiri Oshiro. Rumiko and her husband were secretly killed by Stark after they ha discovered the true nature to an airborne disease that engulfed the domain. As a result, Kiri was an orphan but was a child prodigy who established her small company named Yōsai Mechaniks and she became the protégé of Baron Stark. Oshiro's best friend was Lila Rhodes whose uncle was the domain's representative of the Thor Corps and Kiri was also in a romantic relationship with Peter Urich who operated as the masked Spyder-Man of Technopolis prior to his murder. Kiri later discovered the truth that it was Howard Stark who had created the disease that forced the domain's inhabitants to wear environmental life-suit armors to survive and that the Stark family kept this knowledge a secret. After Baron Stark was exposed for murdering Grand Marshal Rhodes, he was apprehended by the Thor Corps and Kiri Oshiro became the new Baron of the domain.

Television

  • In Marvel Anime: Iron Man, a character based on Rumiko Fujikawa appeared in the setting of the anime television series where she was voiced by Japanese actress Takako Honda and by English actress Laura Bailey. This version was Dr. Chika Tanaka who was a scientist and employee of Stark Industries where she was based in their Japan branch. When Tony Stark visited Japan to witness the opening of the new Arc Reactor power plant and the demonstration of the Dio armour, he spent time at Lab 23 where Dr. Tanaka worked as lead scientist.
