History

The Sentinel Program was an initiative created by humanity's Special Research Projects Administration in a timeline where Earth was invaded by the Chimera. In the early 20th century, the extraterrestrial Chimera came to emerge from Russia where they quickly spread to conquer much of Europe. To combat this threat, the SRPA Tactical Ops on July 14th, 1948 proposed the creation of supersoldiers that would be on par with the enemy and immune to the Chimeran virus that brought down the continent's downfall. Thus, they first authorised the creation of Project Abraham that recruited the finest minds from around the globe with the research being headed by Dr. Fyodor Malikov having years of study on the Chimeran virus due to his past experiments with the Cloven. The project went about enlisting candidates from the military with these being resilient and capable soldiers with strong ties to the country and honor. Volunteers were told that their participation was to help seek a cure for 'European influenza' with all information on the Chimera being withheld from them. As further incentive, anyone that enlisted was offered $10,000 being given to them for their aid. The result of the project was largely fatal at first with some of the subjects developing severe body mutations whilst others fell into comas. Despite the losses, Project Abraham was deemed a success and was shutdown on December 15th, 1950 with all the surviving participants being placed in the SRPA to begin their immediate Sentinel training.

Overview

In appearance, the Sentinels were solders that were genetically enhanced to fight against the threat of the Chimera. Their ranks consisted of volunteers of the SRPA who sought to make a group of enhanced soldier to combat the advantages of their enemy. These soldiers were injected with a variant of the Chimeran virus making them partially immune to its effects as it contained a serum containing the virus that entered the bloodstream. This gifted the soldiers with superhuman abilities that the Chimera typically displayed such as hightened senses and a healing factor allowing them to cope with injuries. In order to prevent a fully conversion into a Chimera, the Sentinels required constant inhibitor treatment which sought to surpress the full effects of the virus.

Due to their nature of their background, the Sentinels were often deployed in high risk and dangerous missions on behalf of the U.S. military. The complexity of their development meant that small teams of Sentinels are often supported by multiple groups of Black Ops soldiers who serve as a vital element within their operations.
