Biography
Pre-Crisis
Princess Chay-ara was a female human who was born in the time of ancient Egypt long ago.
Her routine civilian life was fundamentally disrupted when she attended a prestigious museum exhibition and encountered a prominent research scientist and archaeologist named Carter Hall. Upon making direct physical contact, the two immediately experienced an instantaneous, profound spiritual connection, which prompted Carter Hall to cross-reference her unique physical attributes with an ancient papyrus text he had recently unearthed. He discovered that they were the literal reincarnations of Prince Khufu and Chay-Ara, a royal couple who had been brutally murdered centuries prior by an occult priest named Hath-Set. Before they could process this revelation, a localized criminal mastermind operating under the moniker Dr. Hastor who was the modern-day reincarnation of Hath-Set that initiated an aggressive abduction plot, capturing Shiera Sanders to use her as a ritual sacrifice asset to finalize his historical vengeance. She remained captive under high-stress conditions until Carter Hall materialized operating in his costumed persona as Hawkman. Shiera Sanders utilized her baseline willpower to resist her captor's mental hold, providing critical distraction that allowed Hawkman to successfully deploy his weapons, neutralizing Dr. Hastor and officially initiating her lifelong path as his romantic partner and fellow defender of humanity. (Flash Comics v1 #1)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. She was the daughter of Khea Taramka and her father was the younger brother of the Pharaoh. At some point, her homeland was stricken with a terrible plague that killed her father and the Pharaoh's wife. Afterwards, her mother married the Pharaoh under the pretence of introducing her daughter to the rulers son, Prince Khufu. The pair had been in love with one another for many years and their union was deemed inevitable. (Brightest Day v1 #13) Her heritage meant that she was one of the Hykos who had conquered Egypt long ago and adopted its culture as their own. Their reign was said to had been one of oppression against the native Egyptians with Princess Chay-Ara being against the ruling dynasty. In this time, a vigilante dressed in the guise of the god Horus came to operate and inspired rebels against the Hykos rulers. In reality, this figure was Prince Khufu who was using a hawk mask and anti-gravity wings to inspire the people against the tyrannical Pharaoh. (Hawkman Annual v3 #2)
After the discovery of Nth Metal, her mother attempted to convince the Pharaoh to use it as a weapon of conquest and to make Egypt the centre of the world. He, however, did not have the stomach for warfare and did not desire to use the metal for warfare. Khea later found an ally in the priest Hath-Set where the two worked in secret to circumvent the Pharaoh. This culminated in them murdering him where Khea forged a letter claiming that he took his own life out of grief for the death of his former wife. In the aftermath, her mother was declared as Queen Khea and the new ruler of Egypt where she worked alongside Hath-Set to murder her daughter along with her mate Khufu. They then used the enchanted dagger to make Hath-Set and herself immortal whilst her daughter and her love reincarnated in new bodies over the centuries. (Brightest Day v1 #13)
In the battle against Nekron, Hal Jordan used the power of the life entity to restore a number of the Black Lanterns to living beings again. Hawkgirl was resurrected where she revealed that she now remembered all her reincarnations and was no longer Kendra Saunders but rather Shiera Sanders. She was reunited with her love Hawkman after Nekron and his Black Lanterns had been defeated. (Blackest Night v1 #8)

Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Shiera Sanders was a human Caucasian female with a slender, delicate build and fair skin. She possessed mid-length, vibrant auburn-brown hair styled in a voluminous, highly fashionable 1940s permanent wave arrangement that framed her face, paired with prominent dark eyes and highly refined, elegant facial features fitting her high-society background. Her standard civilian wardrobe reflected upscale contemporary fashion trends of the World War II era, designed for formal social settings. This attire consisted of a tailored, form-fitting designer dress or structured blouse layered underneath a loose civilian jacket, paired with a matching knee-length fabric skirt. She wore elegant, low-heeled leather dress shoes and wore minimal, high-end accessories such as a delicate pearl necklace. During her historical introduction, she did not utilize uniform garments, protective military ballistic body armor, high-tech tactical gear, or traditional superhero masks, maintaining an entirely conventional and sophisticated civilian presentation throughout her first encounter with the supernatural. Powers and abilities
Shiera Sanders was born a member of the human race and possessed no innate genetic mutations, sorcerous curses, or active mechanical augmentations during her initial introduction. On a basic feats level, her standard human biology provided her with the physical strength, reflexes, and environmental durability standard for an ordinary adult human female who focused on domestic and high-society activities rather than regular intensive athletic conditioning or combative warfare. However, she was a highly exceptional member of her species due to her unique metaphysical status as the reincarnated soul of an ancient Egyptian princess. (Flash Comics v1 #1)
Her primary asset relied on her profound psychological resilience and an adaptive human intellect, which enabled her to retain her cognitive focus and survive high-stress containment environments without losing her mental autonomy. She possessed an exceptional capacity for emotional empathy, allowing her to form an instantaneous telepathic and spiritual bond with her eternal soulmate across multi-generational lifetimes. While she entirely lacked her signature anti-gravity Nth Metal wings, enhanced physical attributes, and masterful proficiency in archaic weaponry during her debut, her latent spiritual framework established the structural track for her future chronological manifestation as Hawkgirl.
