Biography
Dr. Jonathan Ohnn
At some point, he came to be enrolled at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) where he roomed with Quentin Beck with the two being friends from this time. (Symbiote Spider-Man v1 #1) He eventually came to marry with his wife being the mother of his child who was named Wyatt Ohnn. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #589) Eventually, he came to be a scientist where he began to work for Wilson Fisk who was the Kingpin of Crime. Ohnn had lunch with Beck and he teased him about his sad career as Mysterio. Beck invited Ohnn to join him in robbing a bank, but Ohnn turned him down. (Symbiote Spider-Man v1 #1) Mysterio came to find Ohnn at Kingpin's headquarters, claiming he had seen an item of incredible power which was Spider-Man's symbiote black suit. (Symbiote Spider-Man v1 #2) The Kingpin came to yell at Ohnn to get back to work though Jonathan secretly plotted with Mysterio on ways to manipulate Black Cat Felicia Hardy into getting Spider-Man's Suit for them. (Symbiote Spider-Man v1 #3) Mysterio later brought back a sample of the symbiotic suit which Ohnn contained within an 'unbreakable glass' container, but the symbiote soon broke out. Kingpin would call upon Ohnn, demanding to know more of his research. At that moment, Spider-Man attacked, revealing to Kingpin that Mysterio was there. Ohnn came to assure Kingpin that he did not know about Mysterio with Fisk questioning Beck. The symbiotic black suit then bonded with Mysterio's costume, allowing for Quentin Beck to escape. Kingpin then struck Ohnn, demanding that Ohnn find out what happened. (Symbiote Spider-Man v1 #4)
Dr. Ohnn was present in that time when Cloak and Dagger were involved in a fight with the Kingpin's superpowered agent known as the Answer. This saw the Answer disappearing in a flash of light thus depriving Fisk of one of his most powerful assets. He then tasked his scientists to conduct an experiment to create another super-powered operative that could help him. Ohm then revealed that the radiation analyzer/duplicator had managed to capture the radiation signature of Cloak making it possible to duplicate his powers. Fisk authorised him to continue his work and one night be looked to replicate the energy signature where he formed a black sphere. Fearing the phenomena would dissipate, he decided to step through thinking he would be in the dimension that empowered Cloak. During the crossing, a power shortage altered the wavelength taking Ohm into another dimension entirely consisting of light and darkness that was covered with black spots. He travelled through one where he found himself back in his laboratory and transformed where he gained superpowers with spots on his body that were portals through space. He then decided to test his powers against a superhero vigilante before showcasing them to the Kingpin. (Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man v1 #98)
Occasionally, Ohnn would manage to project his image back into the normal world, and at one point he tried to contact some of his friends at the Bar with No Name to no avail. As he was being driven mad by his entrapment, John decided to concentrate on the mental image of his son Wyatt, and used him as a beacon that allowed him to come back to the normal world. However, John returned to learn that Wyatt had been caught in the fire of a butchered drive-by orchestrated by Russian mob boss Dmitri Ivankov and was in a coma. When Spot intercepted Ivankov at a meeting to kill him in revenge, but the criminal was saved by Spider-Man, who had happened to be at the scene gathering proof of his illicit activities. Spot continued attempting to murder Ivanov until Spider-Man stood his ground. When the hero made it clear that he intended to protect Ivankov's life, Spot handed him over a package addressed to Wyatt, as well as a letter explaining what had happened to him, and teleported away. However, because of his madness, the letter itself was only lines of dots. When Spider-Man delivered the package to the hospital where Wyatt was hospitalized, the package turned out to be a copy of Treasure Island that John used to read his son every night. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #589)
A mysterious criminal organization that was targeting Daredevil looked to find a new operative to achieve that goal. They decided that they wanted an enforcer with the powers of the Spot and thus kidnapped Ohnn who was hooked up to a machine sapping his abilities. They then brought in a smart, creative and greedy smuggler who was forced to go through the same experiment as Ohnn leading to the man replicating his powers of teleportation. The smuggler then took the name Coyote where he began to ruthlessly eliminate people and also kidnapping others as part of a human trafficking enterprise. This culminated in him capturing Daredevil but the vigilante hero managed to free Spot who wanted revenge on Coyote. Despite Daredevil's attempts, Coyote was ultimately dragged through a portal with his fate being unknown. (Daredevil v3 #21)
The Spot was hired to eliminate a man named Seth who was under protective custody and guarded by the Winter Soldier alongside his charge R.J.. Despite the advantage of his powers, he was ultimately defeated by Barnes who had Ohnn arrested. (Winter Soldier v2 #3)
Following Hydra's short-lived takeover of the United States, the Kingpin became fascinated with the idea of weaponizing Darkforce like Hydra had done to encase Manhattan in an impenetrable dome. To this end, Fisk had Spot captured and experimented on to amplify and extract his connection to the Darkforce Dimension. When Kingpin and Norman Osborn joined forces to capture the demonic entity Kindred, Spot was used to encase the demon in a Darkforce construct. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #56)
He was later attacked in his lab by Carnage and The Artist, the symbiote wanting to take his powers for itself. (Carnage v3 #2) Spot attempted to plead for his life and, when Carnage refused to oblige, simply evade Carnage's attacks. The Artist grabbing Spot's leg, however, weighed him down and distracted him enough for Carnage to predict which spot Ohnn would emerge from, seize him, and rip him apart, subsequently absorbing his remains and his powers; Ohnn's disembodied head, however, claimed he would return from within the Spotted Dimension eventually. (Carnage v3 #3)
