Biography

Lambda-Zero was a female member of the race of cosmic beings known as the Ethereals. Her kind was among the oldest in the universe with them forming as a non-corporeal civilization that inhabited space. At some point, she abandoned her people to be among the corporeal races leading to her encountering the World Devourer Galactus who imbued within her the Power Cosmic turning her into one of his Heralds. (Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus v1 #1) In her new role, she came to be known as Stardust where she sought worlds for her master. (Stormbreaker: The Saga of Beta Ray Bill v1 #2)

During the Annihilation War, the forces of the Annihilation Wave of the Negative Zone invaded the positive-matter universe. During this time, Galactus sent Stardust to seek out his former Herald the Silver Surfer as he had requested a meeting with his former servant. Thus, Stardust departed and found him where she passed the message with the Silver Surfer going forth to meet his former master. The Ethereal met former Heralds Firelord and Red Shift where she learnt that the Heralds were being hunted by the Seekers of Annihilus who sought to harvest them of their Power Cosmic. At that moment, they were ambushed by ships from the Annihilation Wave who were seeking the capture of the Heralds. (Annihilation: Silver Surfer v1 #3) The three Heralds then went to assist the allied forces of the United Front assembled by Nova Richard Rider in battling the Annihilation Wave during their attack on Daedalus 5. Firelord was instrumental was in defeating the Annihilation Wave fleet leading to the capture of the queen Extirpia though the act left in a coma-like state. (Annihilation v1 #1) Stardust and Red Shift later came to the planets surface where they battled Ravenous and his Seekers that were bolstered by reinforcements from the Centurions as they sought to defeat this opposition to their invasion forces. (Annihilation v1 #2)

Though seemingly dead, the Power Cosmic allowed her to reconstitute herself as it had made her immortal. Shortly afterwards, she was confronted by the last survivors of her race after their home was destroyed by the Annihilation Wave thus threatening them with extinction. They had come to challenge Lambda-Zero for her betrayal at abandoning them and joining the corporeals rather than staying with her people. Stardust felt no remorse over her actions with the remaining Ethereals accusing her of being a traitor and they attacked her. She responded and killed them in self-defence but absorbed their sentient remains where she reasoned that perhaps the Ethereal race could be born again. Stardust then departed to find her master and found Galactus in a weakened state as a result of the events of the Annihilation. She sought to resume her service but Galactus refused stating that the Silver Surfer had re-taken his old duty as Herald and that he had no need of her as he found her to be unreliable. In desperation, she begged for a chance to prove her worth to which he asked what she could offer him to make him change his mind. In response, she offered the remaining essence of her people to Galactus with this act surprising him. Though barely a morsel for his hunger, Galactus noted that no Herald had ever offered the last of their people to him. Thus, he named her his second Herald as his hunger had increased which meant there were more worlds he needed to devour and also because he suspected that sometime in the future that the Silver Surfer would turn from his service again. Stardust gratefully accepted her role as she was devoted to Galactus who was the only creature that she truly loved. (Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus v1 #1)
