Biography
Pyreus Kril was a blonde haired male inhabitant of the planet Xandar where he was born of the lower castes and was an orphan. According to Kril, he also lost an aunt and her entire family on the Xandarian colony of Seti-Six after it was consumed by Galactus. Afterwards, he came to be inspired by the actions of famous Xandarian officer Gabriel Lan where he decided he wanted to serve under the man. This saw him enlisting into the military where he joined the Xandar Space Acaademy whilst watching his inspiration on holo-tapes of his career on the colonial frontier. One day, he came to meet his hero and offered to be his friend with Gabriel accepting the bond between the pair. Upon graduation, Kril came to learn that Lan had taken a position on the old abandoned explorer ship Way-Opener where Pyreus requested to join the crew. At first, Gabriel was reluctant but decided to accept his friend in the role of first officer. For the next three years, the pair along with the crew of the ship embarked on a number of missions for the Xandarian empire leading to encounters with many races. During this time, he entered into a romantic relationship with the ship's navigator who was a black haired Xandarian woman named Cortellia who was the daughter of the leading admiral at space command. In this time, they encountered the vessel belonging to the World Devourer Galactus who abducted Captain Gabriel Lan. This led to Pyreus assuming command of the Way-Opener where he petitioned command to pursue in order to recover his friend. His request was denied and Kril defied the orders of Space Command by going rogue as the crew of the Way-Opener travelled across space in search for Galactus. Eventually, they found their quarry but the World Devourer's ship struck at the Xandarian exploration ship badly damaging it and threatening it with destruction. Pyreus evacuated the crew before it was destroyed and he himself was abducted by Galactus where he demanded to know the fate of his friend. Galactus was impressed at the audacity of the Xandarian and offered to reveal this knowledge in exchange for him becoming a Herald of Galactus. Pyreus accepted and he was transformed into the Firelord where he learnt that Gabriel was similarly transformed into the Herald known as Air-Walker. (Uncanny Origins v1 #4)
During the Annihilation War, the Annihilation Wave emerged from the Negative Zone to conquer the positive-matter universe. This resulted in the destruction of Xandar and the various Heralds of Galactus being hunted by the Seekers on behalf of Annihilus who wanted to claim the Power Cosmic for himself. Upon learning of this, Firelord rendezvous with Red Shift and the pair later met up with the Silver Surfer where they helped fend off the Seekers. (Annihilation: Silver Surfer v1 #2) Firelord helped take a refugee from a destroyed Skrull world to safety before returning to the Silver Surfer. They were then met by Stardust who was the current Herald and stated that Galactus had requested a meeting with the Silver Surfer who went to meet the Devourer of Worlds. Once gone, the Firelord and his fellow Heralds were attacked by the Annihilation Wave who were seeking their capture. (Annihilation: Silver Surfer v1 #3) He and the other Heralds supported the United Front that were gathered together by Nova Richard Rider in presenting a single force that opposed the Wave where Firelord helped destroy the enemy ships in orbit of Daedalus 5. Pyreus managed to fight onto the fleet's command ship and confronted the hive-queen Extirpia where he captured her though had expended much of his energy leaving him a coma-like state. (Annihilation v1 #1)
