Biography

Galen Marek was the son of two Jedi who had deserted the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars that ravaged the galaxy. The child was born in secret and lived on the planet Kashyyyk with his family with his mother dying at some point. The young boy remained with his father with the two living on the Wookiee homeworld following the end of the Clone Wars that saw the establishment of the Galactic Empire. This act allowed the family to survive the Jedi Purge following the execution of Order 66 by the Empire. Years afterwards, the Empire dispatched forces to pacify the Wookiees leading to the Imperial military engaging its natives. To lead these efforts, Sith Lord Darth Vader was dispatched to the surface when the Empire received reports of a possible Jedi presence. Darth Vader killed numerous Wookiees during his search until he confronted the Jedi who he pursued to his home. The Sith Lord killed his quarry only to learn that the Jedi had a son that was Galen Marek. Darth Vader sensed potential in the child but intended to keep him secret leading to him killing Imperial forces that arrived on the scene. Taking the boy with him, he kept him in secret as he decided to train the child to become his Sith apprentice. As such, he began the formal training of the boy in the arts of the Dark Side of Force as he groomed the child to be his apprentice and personal assassin who was given the code name Starkiller. To aid in his training, a specialised droid was created named PROXY who used holographic disguises to engage Starkiller to improve his fighting skill. Darth Vader's ultimate goal with Starkiller was training the boy so that he could help him slay Emperor Palpatine who was his own Sith master. Thus, Starkiller came to believe that was his goal in life and to aid his master in this task so that the pair could rule the galaxy. For this reason, the boy's existence was kept a secret from Imperial forces with the few aware of Starkiller simply knowing him as Darth Vader's enforcer. Starkiller went through numerous minor missions with him being assigned a number of Imperial pilots that shuttled him to his destinations with most dying. Many years later, Darth Vader deemed Starkiller ready for his first real assignment with him being tasked by his master to eliminate former Jedi General Rahm Kota who led a rebel resistance cell against the Empire. Juno Eclipse was an Imperial pilot who was assigned to him with her being responsible for shuttling Starkiller on his ship Rogue Shadow to his destination. This first mission saw him being sent to the moon of Nar Shaddaa where Kota's fighters were targeting an Imperial TIE Fighter factory located in orbit. Marek's status as Darth Vader's secret apprentice meant that he had to eliminate both rebel fighters and even Imperial forces that saw him in order to prevent knowledge of Starkillers existence from being known to the wider galaxy.

  • In an interview on IGN, voice actor Samuel Witwer commented on the character that, "We came up with this whole idea that he is two parts Han Solo, one part Darth Maul, one part Indiana Jones – because we're dorks, and there's a difference – and then one essential part Luke Skywalker." He added that, "Behind it all, there had to be this wide-eyed kid who was trying to figure out what the hell to do." Witwer commented that much of his interactions varied depending on who Starkiller was talking to at any given time.

Alternate Versions

  • The game offers an alternative option for the player in that they can choose the Dark Side path by killing Darth Vader. Marek was badly injured as a result and taken by the Emperor who encased him a Sith Stalker armor with him becoming Palpatine's new apprentice.
