History

The Stones originated as the components of a cosmic weapon designed to combat the Great Evil that appeared every 5,000 years to threaten all life. These four stones, representing the classical elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, were entrusted to a race of benevolent extraterrestrial 'guardians' known as the Mondoshawans, who had visited Earth in ancient history long 'before time was time'. For centuries, the stones were housed within a secret Egyptian temple, protected by a dedicated line of human priests who passed down the knowledge of their purpose through generations.

In 1914, the Stones were removed from their hidden temple by the arriving Mondoshawan due to the coming World War engulfing Earth. It was stated by the caretakers that the Stones would be returned when the Great Evil emerged. However, sensing that the Great Evil might have agents in place to stop the retun of the Stones, the Mondoshawan hid it within an alien diva. When the Great Evil emerged, the Stones were recovered and Leeloo accepted her duty to save the Human race which defeated the Great Evil before it impacted the planet.

Overview

In appearance, the Elemental Stones were shaped as elongated, triangular prisms crafted from a distinctive sand-colored or beige stone-like material that resembled ancient clay or sandstone. Each artifact featured a series of deep, horizontal grooves carved into its surface, which served as a visual representation of the specific element it contained. The stone for Water was marked by six wavy, undulating lines, while the Fire stone displayed six sharp, jagged zig-zag patterns reminiscent of flames. The Earth stone was identified by six thick, straight horizontal bars, and the Air stone bore a similar arrangement of lines, though they were often oriented to distinguish it during the activation ritual. These artifacts lacked any visible hinges or openings, appearing as solid, inanimate sculptures until they were placed upon their respective pedestals in the Egyptian temple. When positioned correctly and triggered by their corresponding elemental force—such as a breath of wind or the heat of a flame—the stones would mechanically unfold like blooming flowers, revealing a hollow interior that emitted a brilliant, concentrated beam of white light toward the center of the chamber.

These four Stones were each dedicated to one of the four elements namely water, fire, earth and air. When brought to the hidden temple on Earth, the Stones were required to be activated by using one of those elemental natures on their dedicated stones such as pouring water on the water Stone or pouring sand on the earth Stone. Once activated, the Stones united with the Fifth Element which was the supreme being namely a member of the Monodshawan. This had to be a willing act which fired a powerful beam of light that defeated the Great Evil. If the Fifth Element was occupied by a being with evil in his heart meant that darkness would reign.
