History
The Swordbearers of Arakko were a group of Mutants from the living island of Arakko that was trapped in the demon realm of Amenth. Under Annihilations command, the Amenthi hordes began to invade Otherworld with this being spearheaded by the first Horsemen of Apocalypse. This saw them laying siege to the realm of Dryador that was ravaged by the invaders who pushed forward with their conquest. At this time, the Mutants of Krakoa headed by Apocalypse travelled to make contact with the people of Arakko. A battle erupted though between the two sides when the Horsemen ambushed Apocalypse and badly injured him. As the fighting intensified, the Omniversal Majestrix Opal Luna Saturnyne intervened to stop the fighting between the Horsemen and the X-Men. She suggested a tournament of champions that wielded special swords against one another to decide the fate of the other side. Ultimately, both sides agreed and Saturnyne implanted her choice of weapons in the minds of Polaris and Pestilence. (X of Swords: Creation v1 #1)
The Swordbearers of Arakko quickly managed to gain the upper hand against their Krakoan foes. Despite losing three of their champions; Death, Summoner and Redroot during the course of the tournament, they took a commanding lead with the score at 18-6 ahead of the penultimate challenge; a duel between the White Sword and the Krakoan champion Gorgon. The White Sword chose to summon his soldiers to face Gorgon before personally taking him on. Gorgon managed to slay 13 of the White Sword's champions when Saturnyne announced that Krakoa had receieved a point for each slain champion, giving them a one-point lead. Only when War begged him to end it, did the White Sword personally kill Gorgon, evening the score. (Cable v4 #6)
The final challenge was to be a duel between the Annihilation-controlled Genesis and her erstwhile husband Apocalypse. When Apocalypse gained the upper hand, Annihilation seized control of its host and summoned the armies of Amenth. (X-Men v5 #15) As chaos ensued, the swordbearers of Arakko were split on what to do. White Sword chose to depart the battlefield, stating that he had come for a fight not a battle, and had won it. Bei, who had been wed to Krakoan swordbearer Cypher during one of the challenges chose to defect to her husband's side. The rest of the swordbearers, lead by Isca pursued the Krakoans and participated in the ensuing battle. (Excalibur v4 #15)
While the Arakkii and Amenthian forces seemed to have the upper hand, the intervention of the newly reformed Captain Britain Corps, the X-Men and the Vescora began to turn the tide in favor of the Krakoans. The battle was ended when Apocalypse managed to defeat Annihilation, seize control of it, and cede the tournament on its behalf, ending the conflict. (X of Swords: Destruction v1 #1)
