History
Origin
The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters
In the mid to late 1700s, the land was settled by Charles Graymalkin and his wife Marcia Graymalkin. Little was known about this period, although Charles did bury his son alive after beating him nearly to death, due to finding him having intimate relations with another boy from town. (X-Men: Manifest Destiny v1 #3)
After graduating Oxford University, being drafted in the Korean War, and battling the Shadow King in Cairo, Egypt, Xavier decided to devote his life to protecting humanity from evil mutants and safeguarding innocent mutants from human oppression, believing that both could peacefully coexist. Xavier worked with fellow mutation expert, Dr. Karl Lykos, as well as Dr. Moira MacTaggert, and they began discussing the idea of founding a school for mutants. (X-Men v1 #12)
Before recruiting his first students, a mysterious man calling himself "Cable" arrived at the mansion. In exchange for teaching him about the present, Cable aided Xavier in equipping the mansion with advanced technology. (Cable v1 #45)
Xavier School
Under the influence of Cassandra Nova, Professor Xavier publicly outed himself as a mutant. After this revelation, the Xavier Institute once again opened its doors to students, this time with a greatly increased enrollment. (New X-Men v1 #117) To house the new students, an X-shaped dormitory was built behind the mansion. (New X-Men v1 #122)
Jean Grey School
As Logan decided to reopen the mansion, he named it the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning with Hank McCoy responsible for designing and building it. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #1)
Headed by Wolverine and Kitty Pryde, this new school shared much of the ideological structure of its predecessor and even admitted an alien Brood. The facility was designed by Beast and incorporated Shi'ar engineering and allowed for Danger Room technology to be utilized in any area of the structure. Additionally, the facility was completely self-sufficient, generating its own power and growing its own food. On the opening day, Beast accidentally left a dimension door open and the campus was infested with inter-dimensional gremlins, called Bamfs. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #1)
The school grounds were inhabited by the grandchild of the original Krakoa that asked to join the X-Men after attacking them by the orders of the Hellfire Club. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #3)
Xavier Outreach
Afterwards, Mutants around the world began to be affected when the Terrigen Cloud was accidentally released into the atmosphere. The substance was shown to be toxic to Mutants causing them to die upon prolonged exposure thus necessitating the X-Men to find a sanctuary for their kind. To that end, they moved the school to Limbo where Magick had crafted safeguards to allow the site to remain protected from demons within the area called X-Haven. (Extraordinary X-Men v1 #1)
After it was destroyed, a protest formed outside the destroyed remains where those with anti-Mutant sentiment celebrated the destruction and hailed the possibility of legislation that allowed for the use of a vaccine that eliminated the X-Gene. (Uncanny X-Men v5 #8)
Afterwards, a new Mutant homeland was established on the living island of Krakoa with all the species gathering at it. This saw the X-Mansion being abandoned and left derelict though a gate to Krakoa was established to allow ease of travel. At this time, a hidden nest of Sidri came to hatch underground where they began to colonise the area to be their new home. This saw them attacking Lady Mastermind when she inadvertently disturbed them whilst she intended to use the gate. After cocooning her, her powers influenced the insectoid aliens mind with the two looking for aid to help them by projecting illusions of X-Men. The mysterious appearances attracted Nightcrawler and his team of X-Men where they uncovered the truth at the site. Nightcrawler then came to negotiate with the Sidri where he agreed to let them claim the Xavier estate in exchange for letting Mutants to pass through the gate with the insectoid aliens agreeing to the terms thus ending any further hostility. Graymalkin Prison
Overview
In appearance, the X-Mansion was a lavish, three-storey ancestral estate constructed in the classic colonial style, situated completely within a private, heavily wooded sector of Westchester County, New York. Because the facility operated under the public guise of an exclusive private boarding school for human students, its exterior architecture featured pristine red brick masonry, towering white support pillars, and sprawling green courtyards designed to mask its true operational purpose. The internal layout was highly deceptive, featuring a grand wood-panelled library, private student dormitories, and a central office chamber for Charles Xavier. The lower sub-structures of the estate housed a massive, subterranean military complex engineered from reinforced titanium alloys, which contained a state-of-the-art technological training room, known as the Danger Room, a specialized medical bay, and a secure hangar bay designed to conceal a high-speed supersonic transport jet from local radar scanning arrays. (X-Men v1 #2)
The X-Mansion operated as a massive technological and defensive nexus possessing the near-infinite capability to monitor worldwide genetic mutations and launch rapid, multi-directional superhero deployments. The underlying energy and communication framework was entirely synchronized with an advanced, room-sized telepathic amplifier device known as Cerebro, which allowed Charles Xavier to track the exact coordinates of any super-powered individual on the physical plane. For defense, the automated system inside the lower levels was equipped with computerized combat machinery, motorized wall-mounted obstacles, and localized gravitational dampeners inside the Danger Room designed to push mutant abilities to their physical limits. Furthermore, the estate's perimeter was secured by invisible electronic sensor grids and automated shielding arrays capable of absorbing high-velocity kinetic impacts, enabling the fortress to function as a secure biological sanctuary where nascent mutants could safely master their destructive evolutionary adaptations without endangering the human public.
