History

The Z'Nox were a star-spawned race of humanoids that were natives of the Andromeda Galaxy. Far back in their history, evolution was said to had produced a people that lacked compassion. They came to develop into a war-mongering race that sought to plunder and enslave others. A millennium ago, Z'Nox devised the ultimate weapon and perfected a gravity transformer drive capable of transporting their entire planet anywhere across the cosmos. (X-Men v1 #65)

Eventually, the aliens set their sights on Earth. However their approach was detected early by the telepathic mutant Charles Xavier, who prepared in solitude for months leading up to the alien’s arrival. When the Z’Nox’s world reached Saturn, they sent a scout ship to Earth’s South Pole to act as a homing beacon for their planet. The ship was promptly intercepted by both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the X-Men, though only the X-Men managed to infiltrate the ship. Once inside the ship the X-Men enacted the plan long prepared by Charles Xavier. The telepath focused the compassion and kindness of the entire planet and channelled it through his X-men. Unable to comprehend this emotional attack, the Z’Nox redirected their planet away from Earth, retreating. (X-Men v1 #65) Whilst the Z’Nox planet fled from Earth the scout ship remained. Many Z’Nox on the ship were killed in the attack, though one survived went into hiding on Earth. [[HYDRA acquired some several of the Z’Nox’s corpses for use in their experiments. In addition, HYDRA acquired a deadly virus, which the Z’Nox had brought to Earth as a backup in case they failed in their invasion. When a trio of paramilitary agents were sent in to destroy the facility, one went rogue and stole a vial of the pathogen. He planned to sell it back to the one surviving Z’Nox but things went wrong, resulting in the pathogen being released, killing dozens and mutating his body. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #23) While the X-Men had successfully driven the Z’Nox away from Earth they continued to cut a swath of conquest across the rest of the galaxy. The X-Men and the Fantastic Four attacked the Z’Nox world and through the machinations of Mr. Fantastic the rogue alien world was directed through a portal into the dimension between the universe and the Negative Zone. While the Z’Nox world, and millions of Z’Nox, were now trapped other Z’Nox remained free on other worlds. (X-Men: The Hidden Years v1 #9)

At some point, the S'Thalin family defected to Earth where they were offered a resettlement program by S.W.O.R.D. in exchange for Z'Nox operating procedures. (S.W.O.R.D. v1 #2)

Henry Peter Gyrich began a mass campaign at deporting aliens from the planet and revoked their visas. This saw a S.W.O.R.D. strike team being dispatched to physically restrain the hysterical family unit. (S.W.O.R.D. v1 #2)

Under the reign of Emperor Vulcan, the Shi'ar Imperium's First Praetorian Fleet of the Shi'ar Armada attacked the planet Z'Nox in the Huz'deyr star system as part of their mandate of expanding the empire. Despite the Z'Nox defences, they were unable to combat the Shi'ar who successfully conquered them and incorporated them into the Shi'ar Empire. News of the Z'Nox defeat later reached the Ovoids whose representative spoke of the matter during an assembly of the Galactic Council. (X-Men: Kingbreaker v1 #1)

Overview

Their people were led by a monarch known as the King. (X-Men: Kingbreaker v1 #1)

Evolution had resulted in the Z'Nox being born utterly and completely without compassion. Thus, they understood nothing but cruelty and war. (X-Men: The Hidden Years v1 #8)

It was said that they were utterly dedicated to plunder and enslavement. For eons, they had perfected the techniques of conquest with their only art being death and their only joy was death. Worlds that were conquered had their respective populations taken as slaves. (X-Men v1 #65) As such, the Z'Nox were referred to being akin to space-borne locusts who savaged and pillaged a world before moving on. (X-Men: The Hidden Years v1 #8)

Among their creations were guardian beasts that were large green-skinned behemoths that were placed as guardians of certain locations. (X-Men v1 #65)

They had developed a gravity transformer drive able to move a planet across the cosmos. (X-Men v1 #65)
