The quantum surge was an energy wave created by the Transwarp explosion that destroyed the Vok Planetbuster weapon. This wave travelled across space and time, and had several odd effects- most notably, the transformation of several Maximals (Cybertrons) and Predacons (Destrons) into Transmetals, and the alteration of the raw energon on Earth into energon cubes. The wave travelled as far as Cybertron (Seibertron) in the distant future, though the Tripredacus Council prevented the Maximals there from detecting it for their own purposes.
