History
The Entropy Aegis was the burnt out shell of an Imperiex Probe that had been taken by Darkseid and retrofitted with technology from Apokolips. It was designed to be used as a weapon against Imperiex by turning the cosmic destroyer's own power against him. Darkseid had intended for Superman to be the wearer of the armour and had him teleported against his will to Apokolips following a battle where the Kryptonian was nearly killed by Imperiex. In a daze, Parademons and Kalibak were tasked with quickly placing him in the armour before he regained consciousness but they were too late to accomplish the task. Darkseid himself battled the Man of Steel but revealed that they were not enemies but allies against a common foe. However, Superman refused and departed Apokolips in order to confront Imperiex without the Entropy Aegis. (Superman: Man of Steel v1 #116)
Irons arrived at the scene wearing the armour where he helped fight off B-13 technology and participated in the onslaught against Brainiac 13. (Superman: Man of Steel v1 #117)
Superman was able to beat back Brainiac-13, but learned Imperiex's energy was alive and powering Warworld, and that the defeat of Brainiac would free Imperiex. Superman came up with a plan to deal with them both, he had Lex Luthor, who had regained command of LexCorp Towers, fire the temporal displacement beam into space the same moment Darkseid used the Omega Effect from Apokolips to create a Boom Tube in space. Steel used the Entropy Aegis to fuse the two, creating a Boom Tube that opened up to the beginning of time, which swallowed Warworld. Imperiex set off a big bang that melded with the original, allowing him to fulfill his purpose, and scattering B-13's consciousness across all spacetime. (Action Comics v1 #782)
Determined to save his friend John Henry from Darkseid's clutches, Superman now faces Darkseid on an asteroid on Apokolips. Whilst there, he made a bargain with Darksied. If he bests Darksied in single combat, then he gets to take Steel and leave Apokolips, and he will not tell anyone of Darkseid's defeat. If Darkseid wins, he gets to keep Superman, Steel, the Entropy Aegis, and the power to remake and destroy the universe. Darkseid, aware that Superman probably isn't being up front with him about everything, accepts the wager, and takes the offensive immediately, attacking the Man of Steel with full-force. On the asteroid, Darkseid seems to get the upper hand on the Man of Steel and as he looms above superman to crush him with a boulder, Superman uses his freeze breath against the Dark lord. Meanwhile, Natasha is teleported to another place on Apokolips, using the power of the Entropy Aegis. She finds herself standing infant of a large statue, made in the likeness of the Aegis. Suddenly, Doomsday begins punching his way out of the statue, and emerges from inside the statue, and he sets his sights on Natasha. She uses her suit's energy blasts against the creature, but this only barely delays the rampaging juggernaut. Darkseid and Superman face each other, both catching their breath, weary from the long fight. Darkseid threatens to destroy Superman, but the Man of Steel commands Darkseid to give him Steel. Darkseid refuses, and attacks him again. Darkseid tells Superman that Steel was never meant to be the entropic force because he was too mortal. But Superman tells him that the entropic force was merely incubated inside of Steel, and that it was nurtured to provide a potent fuel, one which would amplify a more powerful entity.
