The Ipecacuanha was a schooner belonging to Captain Davis, and which was hired by Dr. Moreau to ferry Montgomery to and from their island. Davis severed his ties with Moreau after the early 1887 voyage that rescued Edward Prendick. What happened to the Ipecacuanha following this is unknown, except that it was reported lost and, several months later, in early 1888, a dinghy containing the corpses of Davis and one of his crew washed ashore on the island.
